Two weeks and still bleeding

Hello Ladies,
DH and I lost our little angel on April 3rd. It was a missed miscarriage (baby stopped growing at 6 weeks 5 days, but as of 8 weeks, my body still had not recongnized it.) The Dr. administered cytotec to begin the process. The cramping was TERRIBLE for the first 48 hours. I have had HCG Quant. done and that confirmed the HCG numbers are decreasing very rapidly. However, I'm still bleeding. Not heavy, but noticeable. Do you think that's normal? I'm terrified of getting an infection and harming my fertility.

I bled for close to 8 weeks. I was about 15 weeks along, though, so natural to bleed longer I'd say. I think two weeks is fine. Infection can only occur if your cervix is open, so you can have your OB check that. I did, because I was bleeding so long and worried about infection. First sign of a fever, you MUST go see your Dr.

I think it is normal. Your body is still trying to get rid of everything and return to normal. You have to realize you didnt have a period for 2 months so now your body is making up for it.

I'm so sorry for your loss, and that you're still going through the lingering physical symptoms. They suck -- they keep reminding us of our loss. But the bleeding will stop!

It does seem excessive since most "regular" periods last about 5 days, but unfortunately bleeding after an m/c seems to take longer. It did for me each time -- once for 4 weeks.

If you're concerned (re infection, etc) I would get reassurance from my GP, if I were you. But personally, I never had an infection afterward -- no long term problems whatsoever.

Please keep writing in. We care about you, and we understand.

I am very sorry for the loss of your baby Sad

To answer your question...Yes, it is quite normal to bleed for 2, 4, 6, 8, 11 (me!) weeks...

As far as infection goes...You should be okay as long as you abstain from dtd (or, use a condom) until the bleeding stops...If brown blood...this is old...should be okay then.

My only other concern for extended bleeding, or getting an infection, would be left over poc..Has your doc done an ultrasound to confirm all is gone?

Sending many :bighug: too you..

So sorry to hear about your loss... Sad

I found out our baby had no heartbeat on March 10, started bleeding 2 weeks later and I'm STILL bleeding, 3+ weeks later. It hasn't been real heavy, and is slowing down now so I *think* it's almost over now. But holy cow I can't WAIT for it to be done with!!! It is a horrible reminder.

Marie - you bled for 11 weeks?!!? Wow. That just plain sucks, sorry to hear about that.

The bleeding definitely sucks!! I guess when you think about a miscarriage, you think of it as being one day and then it's over (at least, that's what I thought). I bled for 3 weeks (after miscarrying at 5 weeks) and besides being scared I was losing too much blood (my periods on the pill only lasted a few days), I kept thinking, if the bleeding would just stop I could start to get over this horrible thing. I would see the doctor just to make sure everything is okay-I know I feel better knowing they are checking me every week.

How are you doing? Has the bleeding stoped?

It seems to be tapering off. I'm hoping it will quit by this evening. I have a pain in my side that indicates I'm ovulating, so I'm hoping that's a good sign. The OB/GYN called me last week to tell me my HCG levels are dropping dramatically. That's good too, so they aren't concerned about infection. I have to go back in today to have more blood work. Hopefully the levels are gone and we can begin to go back to normal.

I bleed off and on for two weeks. The first week it was bad then the second I spoted off and on. I did have a D/C done though. If you feel you need to call your Doc and see what they say. (((hugs))) Tori
