Yesterday we told our families (FINALLY!) about "Bean #2"! We had DH's family stop by our house on their way back out to the cabin after church. We were going to tell them that night out at their house (both my family and DH's family live in the same small town - we were going to stop by both houses) but they said they would be back at the cabin until tomorrow. So we had them stop by around 2:30 pm. I got Ella dressed up in her "Big Sister" onesie, and we brought her out to visit! I handed her right to my MIL, with the shirt full in her face........nothing. We visited for about 10 minutes and neither my MIL or FIL read her shirt! Finally, since the had only stopped by for a few minutes, DH said "Did you have a look at what Ella's shirt says?" They both paused to read it, and their eyes widened........."What? Really?" They were excited, and shocked to hear that we are already 3 months along! I said "I thought you might have noticed how fat I looked yesterday at Ella's party" and my MIL said "Well I was wondering, because I thought you were going to they gym - but you looked like you were gaining weight not losing it!" So that was DH's family down. Then we headed out to my family's house for dinner. We didn't even bother with a sweater - it was hot out and we thought we'd just see how long it took them to notice. I thought I saw one of my younger sisters reading it, but she didn't say anything. My mom was so busy getting dinner ready that she barely looked at Ella, and my other sister is such a ditz that I didn't expect anything from her! Finally after about 30 minutes, DH said "Hey Grandma, maybe you could take a break from making dinner to read Ella's shirt...." I lifted Ella up to her eye level and then it was my mom's eyes that widened........."No! Really?" and my sisters came in to the room saying "What? What's happening?" And Amy (the one who i saw read the shirt) said "I know" and Megan was still completely clueless. I said to her "what does it say on Ella's shirt?" and she said "I'm the big sister". "And what does that mean?" And my goofy 11 year old sister looked confused and said "I'll know as soon as you tell me!" LOL Finally we got the news out and everyone was excited. My mom was in awe that I've kept it a secret for this long - we've known since May 31st. We had fun - but both our families are so slow that no one picked up on it! I wonder if they would have noticed if we just let them go the whole evening.......
Well, Ella and I leave tomorrow for our big adventure!
On Saturday we leave for Winnipeg, Manitoba with my mom, stepdad, and two sisters. We're driving there - it'll take about 6 hours. We spend 4 days there (lots of family there) until we fly out on Wednesday July 30th at 7 am for Halifax, Nova Scotia. It's a 5 hour flight (but thankfully direct). Then we spend 5 days in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia until Sunday August 3rd, when we drive to Prince Edward Island (actually I think we're taking the ferry). We're in PEI until Wednesday August 7th when we drive back to Halifax. Ella and I fly out on August 8th back to Winnipeg (my family is staying an extra week). We'll be in Winnipeg until Chris can come pick us up - he'll arrive Saturday and we'll drive home Sunday. We'll be gone for 15 days and poor DH will be at home alone as a bachelor! He's in school right now.
I'm excited but also nervous - Ella certainly doesn't travel as well as she used to when she was little. We've been to Philadelphia and Cancun, but she wasn't so particular about naps and bedtime in HER crib then! We'll see how it goes! We're going to do lots of sightseeing, check out all the Anne of Green Gables things in PEI, and my family band has a gig in Annapolis Royal (the main 'reason' for the trip).
All I'm doing today is packing and doing laundry - we have to pack light since there will be 6 people in a minivan with all our luggage PLUS a guitar, Ella's stroller, and her riding in her MONSTROUS carseat. Ah! I'm not even bringing many diapers, I'm just going to buy some when we get there! But I do have to bring a can of formula (I decided not to switch to whole milk until after the trip since formula is so easy). Packing is tough - we're gone for 2 weeks, and I'm kind of right now in the stage where my regular clothes are getting tight but maternity looks a little funny! I think I'll just pack maternity and be comfortable.
UPDATE on Life, Ella Bella, our East Coast Trip, and Bean #2
Hi all! I swear I never want to go away again, it is just so daunting to come back and try to catch up and get back in the Pg.org groove. BUT, I leave again in less than a week for Phoenix, so I figured I should play catch up before I leave again!
1) Life. Life is good! I am tired and sick of the summer heat, especially wearing maternity clothes. DH is in the middle of finals right now and then starts school again right after we get back from Phoenix. He also got an assignment at church to be a seminary teacher - the youth of our church go to seminary every morning before high school (grades 9-12) at 7 am. It's basically a scripture study class. He is going to be the teacher starting in September. His little brother and my little sister are in his class! So we are in for a busy time. He is going to school full time, teaching every morning, and working overnight on Friday and Saturday. So Ella and I are making do on our own for a while. Good news is he graduates in April (lol, only to start the CA program immediately following)
2) Ella Bella. The little goober had her 12 month check up at 13 months. She was 21 lbs and 30.5 inches. She's starting to wear her 12-18 month clothes. She is still not walking, only crawling like a maniac and cruising like it's going out of style. She stood up for 19 seconds by herself last Sunday night! But she prefers to drop down to her bum and get around on her knees. I'd give her another month or so for walking, just because she's so comfortable crawling. She is starting to be a little bit of a monster - climbing on things, getting stuck in odd places - she can climb stairs and knows how to get off of the bed or the couch. She dances to music and loves to make funny noises with her tongue. Today I bought her a twin bed for when the new baby comes - she looked so ridiculously small on it in the store I almost cried. We're going to set it up this fall and give her a few months to get used to it. *fingers crossed* She is quite a Mama's girl (which annoys me but secretly I'm happy )
3) Our East Coast Trip. Poor DH was lonely - 13 days all by himself. He said it was cool for about 12 hours and then it just sucked. He felt like he was a mute, he never had anyone to speak to! Well, we spent 4 days in Winnipeg, Manitoba visiting with my family there. Ella had another party, got tons of clothes, my stepmom took me maternity clothes shopping, and we visited a lot. Then we flew out to Halifax, Nova Scotia. We drove 2 hours to Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia where we spent the next 4 days - our family band had it's gig, we went to the farmer's market on the wharf, went and saw the Bay of Fundy, ate some fresh sour cherry pies and I ate half a scallop. (I don't eat any fish or seafood. I think my mom would have died if I went to the coast and never ate anything out of the sea, so I had a scallop. OK, half a scallop.) Ella ate so many blueberries I thought she was going to turn in to one! And OH, the blueberry diapers. I think I'm going to vomit. From there, we drove 8 hours to Prince Edward Island, across the Confederation Bridge, which takes an hour to drive across. On the Island for 3 days, we visited all the Anne of Green Gables sites in existence. (And if you don't know who Anne is I will consider you as someone with a deprived childhood.....lol, OK, no, but I'll take pity on you) We went to Avonlea Village, Green Gables, L.M. Montgomery's grave, the site of her home, walked through the Haunted Wood, and Anne-ed ourselves out. On our last day we saw "Anne of Green Gables: The Musical" in Charlottetown. Then we took the ferry back to Nova Scotia, drove in to Halifax, and I flew out the next morning with Ella, back to Winnipeg. Spent the night there and the next day, it was back home to Daddy! Here are a few pics of our trip. The people in the photos will be my mom, stepdad, two younger sisters, Ella and me.

Yes, they even had dress up.....
And Gilbert Blythe proposed!
4) Bean #2. I felt little bean move for the first time last night! With Ella I didn't feel any movement until 21 weeks, but at almost 17 weeks, knowing what to feel for, little Bean #2 was squirming around! I'm doing great - just tired and hot, but no real problems. I have my BIG U/S on September 12th at 11 am. We had fun with Ella being a surprise, but I am excited to find out the gender this time. This fall we'll change Ella's room around, get rid of the chair and put the twin bed in there across from the crib. We're thinking of buying a double stroller while we're in Phoenix next week. My belly is getting big and noticeable. Here are some pictures.
Well......I hope that was catch up enough! I promise to stop Lurking and get back in the game! I've been a little distracted with watching Grey's Anatomy online all week - I decided to watch all the seasons again before Season 5 starts at the end of September I know, I'm a goof.
Today is the day - finally a vacation with DH this summer! He's at school right now writing his last final. He'll be home by noon, we'll cut the grass, take the garbage out, do the dishes and tidy up the house. I've got one last load of laundry in that needs to be packed.
Then tonight we fly to Winnipeg, stay overnight, and tomorrow morning we fly to Phoenix via Denver. Once in Phoenix, we're staying at the IL's new house down there for a week. We'll do some swimming, take in a ball game, and do some shopping. I told DH he wasn't allowed to bring ANY textbooks (he wanted to bring one of his new textbooks for next semester and start reading it) and he isn't allowed to think about school.
I'm in need of a break too........we've got a rather rough next day with all the flights, etc, and Ella JUST caught a cold overnight. BAHHHH!!!!!! I didn't sleep last night for more than 20 minutes at a time until 4 am, when I got to sleep until 7 am. Tomorrow morning we have to be up at 3 am to catch our 6 am flight, so I thought I'd get a good sleep in last night......but no. DH had to sleep so he could do well on his test, so I was up ALL night with Ella's coughing and sneezing and not breathing. Plus I can't nap today because I have to finish packing. We leave for the airport at 3:45 pm today.
Anyways, I'm off until September 2nd (maybe the 3rd by the time I get on the computer). Miss you all!
As you might remember, Ella caught a cold the night before we flew out. I was so distraught about her flying with a cold - there was no time to see a Dr. and her nose was running like a fountain. Well, we made our first leg of the journey - from Regina, Saskatchewan to Winnipeg, Manitoba (a 50 minute flight) on August 25th. Ella SCREAMED during the descent and landing - she would not drink her sippy or suck on her soother to help her ears, and I felt like the most irresponsible parent - I thought I was going to blow out her eardrums. Finally we got on the ground and my dad picked us up and took us to the hotel (he had house guests so we couldn't stay with him). We ordered pizza and tried to put Ella to sleep in the play pen at the hotel. We put her down around 9 pm. By 2:30 pm she hadn't slept for more than 20 solid minutes. She was in and out of our bed, tossing and turning like she had a stomach ache. We decided we weren't going to go on our trip. We had no cancellation insurance, and Dh called the airline to see if there was any chance they could give us a flight the next day or something - but we booked our flights with Aeroplan and they didn't open until 7 am. Our flight was scheduled for 6 am. I was so utterly depressed, but I didn't want to be a bad parent and put Ella through 2 more flights the next day when she couldn't even sleep through the night.
THEN, around 2:30 am, she was lying in her playpen and she let out the LOUDEST fart I've ever heard. Within 2 minutes, she fell fast asleep. DH and I lay in bed and killed ourselves laughing (as silently as we could). We decided just to go to sleep and see how she did (even though we were supposed to be up at 3:30 am for our 6 am flight). We slept in (on purpose) until 4:30 and then made a last minute call - we decided to go! Ella seemed much better and her nose wasn't running at all any more. She was GREAT on the flights - tired obviously, but she did nap on both flights. Well, we made it to Phoenix, via Denver by 9:20 am Phoenix time. And the fun began!
As soon as we got to the IL's house in Johnson Ranch/Queen Creek area, Ella immediately tried to jump in the pool as soon as she saw it. So she went for a swim with DH while MIL and I made her lunch. Then she ate and went straight to sleep for 2 hours, PLUS 2 more hours that afternoon PLUS bed before 8 pm. Poor little bean, but she was in very good spirits. Anyways, Tuesday we just rested and toured the house. MIL and I went shopping and bought a play pen, a high chair, etc for the house for Ella to use when she's down there (and SIL's baby Jaxson).
Wednesday we went shopping at the outlet mall - I bought myself 2 pairs of shoes since I couldn't buy clothes (other than maternity, which I don't need) and DH bought some clothes as well. Ella got some cute little shoes too, and some CUTE clothes from Children's Place.
Thursday we hung around the house for most of the day, swimming and watching movies. Then at night we went to Rawhide - and old western theme town. It was dark out and 110 degrees (I almost died) Ella went on a train ride, got scared by the gun fights, and DH rode the mechanical bull. MIL and FIL bought Ella pink cowgirl boots and a pink leather vest. I think she will be a cowgirl for Halloween this year! There was a HUGE storm that night - we got lost driving home (FIL decided to try a new route - in a torrential downpour - it took us 90 minutes to get home instead of 50 minutes).
Friday we went to the Mesa Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (our church). Then FIL, DH and I went to a D' backs game.
Saturday we went to Canyon Lake and rented a pontoon boat - Ella's first boat ride! She looked hysterical in her life jacket. We had a great time on the lake! Then MIL went shopping again in the afternoon and got Ella some super cute outfits from Kohl's. That night DH and FIL went to an ASU game and we had a girls night - ordered pizza and watched chick flicks.
Sunday we went to church and had afternoon naps! It was a relaxing day. Another HUGE storm that night.
Monday was home time! We had a nice swim and tan in the morning then flew off to Winnipeg via Denver. Ella was really quite good on both flights despite being quite tired. Once in Winnipeg we slept the night at my dad's house and caught our flight to Regina this morning. And here we are! We got home at 8 am and DH stated school at 10 am. And we're back to life as normal.
We had good weather in Phoenix - it wasn't sweltering and 115 every day like it had been the week before. It was around 100 and the evenings were quite nice for swimming at about 95 degrees. I think I would have DIED had it been as hot as it normally is. But, we arrived home to find FALL instead of summer! It is rainy and only 50 degrees today at home. Gross. Now I'm VERY glad we went!
OOOOOHHHHHH! I almost forgot! Ella took her first steps! At the airport on August 25th, she took 3 steps all by herself! Then throughout the week she tries it every now and then - I think her most is 6 steps in a row. Anytime now she'll take off!
Anyways, enough blabbing on, here are a few pics!
First, some pics of the house. It's a beautiful house - DH and I want to go live there! Once he's done school and starts his accounting program we might try out a transfer to Phoenix for a year. We could stay in the IL's house with no rent. It has 4 beds, 2.5 baths, a pool, kitchen, dining room, tv room, and living room.

DH and I decided to go for a swim in the lake - COLD! And a peek at my big belly!
Well, almost 19 weeks now! Here is a belly pic from about 17.5 weeks - time for a new one!
I've been feeling pretty good but I've been way more dizzy and nauseous this time. I was trying to cook some bacon at the stove and couldn't stand up long enough to finish it - I got really dizzy and felt ill. Not from the smell, but from standing up. Also I've got some pain in my ribs and my back - I remember the rib pain from last time but my back is just KILLING me now! I don't remember that at all. And I'm not even half done! But I'm still in good spirits, and I love being pregnant and watching my belly grow!
The U/S is next week! I can't wait to find out PINK or BLUE!
Ugh. 2nd Tri morning sickness has found me. WHAT? I've never been sick AT ALL before during pregnancy - this one or Ella's. And this morning my breakfast and dinner came up and got flushed down the toilet. BLAH.
And I've got so much to do today - laundry, grocery shopping, tidy the house, choir tonight - and I feel like poop. Well, I feel a lot better since I puked, but still not great.
I really feel like eating a nectarine, but I don't know how my stomach will feel about that.
I'm now a part of TEAM.............................
I'm a little scared to have a boy - I don't know anything about little boys! I had two younger sisters who were much younger than me so I know all about little girls, but little boys make me nervous! LOL
Now I've got to go out and buy a little boy outfit!
I am excited to have a boy, just a little scared!
The U/S went well. Baby Boy is nestled up along one side of me, lying on his stomach with his head turned to one side. He picks his nose a lot (either that or he does a lot of thinking and likes to tap his head) He waved hello to Ella when she came in the room and up to see me on the bed. He is DEFINITELY a boy, although he only let us glimpse it once or twice. At one point I had to wipe myself off and get up to go for a walk in hopes that he would move to a different spot - he is so snuggled in against the side of my uterus that the tech couldn't get any heart measurements. It worked though, and she got some quick before he snuggled back in to his corner.
So, that's our last U/S, and the last time we see Baby Boy until he comes out! The due date stayed the same. His HB was 154 when he was working up a sweat kicking my bladder. He weighs 10 ounces.
