I went to the doctor today. My weight was the same, BP and urine were fine. They did a stress test and it went well. Then they did a ultrasound to check growth. I never had a late one with Katie so it was cool to see. He first measured the head, she was facing head down and face to the back so he had a hard time getting the measurment. Then he measured the abdomen, then the femur. They some how take all those measurments and come up with the estimated weight. They estimated her to be about five and a half pounds, which is in the 45%. The doctor was happy with all the measurments. He also measured fluid levels and said they were also good. I go back again on Thursday for my next appt.
I went to the doctor today now I am freaking out a bit. My weight was 157 pounds, BP and urine were good. I had a stress test and it looked good too. The doctor told me he would like me to go on my own but he will induce at 39 weeks. He said once you start insulin they do not like you to go to far along. I guess the placenta can deteriorate the further along you are with gestational diabetes. I hope this will not be a problem since I went into labor on my own at 39 weeks with Katie.
I had another stress test today. It went well. My weight was 159 pounds. The doctor told me that he is going to start stripping my membranes next Monday to see if we can jump start things a little. I am fine with that. They also did my group b strep test today.
I went to the doctor today. I can not believe that I will be 37 weeks tomorrow, where has the time gone. My weight was 159 pounds, BP and urine were good. They hooked me up to the monitors and little Samantha was I guess asleep. Heartrate was in the 120s and she was not really moving all that much. They left me on for about 35 minutes with the same results. He had me get up and take a little 5 minute walk and then tried again. She had woken up and was moving and they were happy with the heartrates then. I was there like an hour and a half. Also I am very happy to say that my group b strep was negative. I was surprised, I was positive with Katie so I just expected it again.
Back to the doctor today. Weight was 159 pounds and BP and urine were good. Stress test looked good too. He said he would wait until Thursdays appt to strip my membranes so I will be closer to 38 weeks.
I went back to the doctor today. Weight was 159 pounds, BP and urine were good. I had a stress test and then he checked me. I was a fingertip dilated and he stripped my membranes. It didn't really hurt so I guess we will see what happens.
I went back to the doctor today. My weight was 161 pounds, that is 20 pound gain so far. BP and urine were good. Stress test was fine too. He checked me again, I was almost 2 cm dilated, he stripped my membranes again. I go back on Thursday. They also did another u/s to check weight. He had a hard time getting an accurate measurement of her head because she is running out of room. With all the measurements she is estimated at 6 pounds 15 ozs.
Had my appt this morning. It took forever. Weight was 161 pounds. BP and urine were good. They hooked me up to the stress test machine and that was good too. He stripped my membranes for the third time. I was a good 2 cms so we will see what happens now. I am schduled to be induced on Tuesday if I don't go into labor by then.
Went back to the doctor today for the last time. My weight was 161 pounds, urine and BP were good. My stress test was good too. So we are on to go in the morning to the hospital for induction. I am nervous but sure everything will be fine.
Fred and I got to the hospital at 6:30 as instructed and went right up to the labor and delivery floor. We went into room number four, which I am almost positive is the same room we had Katie in. I got my gown on and gave a urine sample. Then we just waited around for a while. At 7 the day nurse came on shift, Donna. Donna came in and started doing all her paperwork and put my IV in. At 7:30 she started the pitocin, she started it at the lowest level and told us they increase it every 30 minutes until your contractions are regular and have a good intensity. At 7:45 Dr A came in and broke my water. Not all that much came out and it kept gashing everytime I moved around. At 8 Donna came and increased the pitocin. I was having some contractions at this point but not many really and they were not painful. Mom got to the hospital about this time. When she came to increase the pitocin again I was having some good steady contractions so she said we could leave it were it was at. I was very thankful for that. I was doing well at this time with the contractions. I got up to go to the bathroom a few times and moving around was helping. So I was just trucking along fine. I sat on the birthing ball and moved around on it. I was really having to breathe and concentrate during contractions at this time. About 10 I got back into the bed so Donna could check me and see how far I was dilated. This is when things got very serious. I started contracting hard. When she checked me I was 4 cm. I was so upset that I was having a lot of pain and not very dilated. I told her I wanted an epidural. This was about 10:15. Fred asked if there was something they could give me now to see if it would help and hold off on the epidural, I love him. He knew that I really did not want an epidural. Donna told me she thought that I was going to go very quickly from that point. She brought me in a small dose of Fentanyl. She checked me again and I was 6 cm. This was about 10:30. She then told me she was going to go and call the doctor. I think the Fentanyl helped with the pain some but really helped me just to calm down and focus. Fred was right there in my face telling me to breathe and that I was doing great. Dr A came in about 10:45, checked me and I was 9.5 cm. Whoa I could not believe it. He then left the room and as soon as he did I told Donna I had to push. That sensation to push is so overwhelming there is no denying it. She pushed the call bell and told them she needed some help now and to get the doctor. I told her she was going to have to deliver this baby herself if they did not hurry. I could feel the baby moving down inside of me. All of the sudden all these nurses come dashing in and tear the bed apart and move me into position. Dr A then came in. I started to push with the contractions with all my might. I pushed for a few contractions, less than 5 minutes, and out came the head. When the head came out the cord was around it. Dr A pulled it over and then I pushed her shoulders and the rest of her out. She was born at 10:59. They suctioned out her mouth and nose and put her on my chest. Oh what sweet relief that was. I got to cut the cord. Her apgars were 8 and 9. We snuggled for a few then they took her to clean her up a bit. Dr A fixed me up and I delivered the placenta. My mom stayed in for the birth and she was so amazed and said it was the highlight of her life that she could witness it. Samantha weighed 7 pounds even and was 19 inches. Perfect. I am so proud of myself for the way the birth went. Even if I had still wanted the epidural there would have been no time for it before she was born anyways. I am still in shock at how fast that it went. We are so in love with her.
