February Baby

July 17 2010

I found out I was pregnant on June 14th. My last period was on May 20th. I got a positive test before my period was even due. I have been hesitant to start a journal for this pregnancy since I had a miscarriage in December. I am very excited to be pregnant again but of course I am nervous.

I called and made an appointment to see the doctor when I found out. He wanted to see me earlier this time just to make sure things were looking good. I went in on July 2nd in the afternoon. My weight was 145lbs but I had just come back from vacation. We the doctor did the u/s everything looked good. I was measuring 2 days behind but he was not concerned about that. You could already see the heartbeat at 6 weeks. I made the next appt for 8 weeks.

When I went in for my 8 week appt they did all the normal history question, peed in a cup and took blood. The u/s looked great again. The baby was measuring 1 day ahead this time. It was crazy to see how much the baby had grown in 2 weeks. I have been feeling sick and crappy the last 2 weeks. I have not threw up but just felt like it. It has been a new feeling since I was never sick with Katie. My next appt is 12 weeks. I hope and pray everything will be fine then.

So after lunch today I went to the bathroom and when I wiped there was some blood. I freaked out of course. I called the doctor and left a message for the nurse. She called back about 15 minutes later and asked some questions and I made an appt to have a u/s at 4:30. Fred got off of work early and we went in. They did an u/s and everything was great. The baby measured right on and there was a heartbeat. The doctor thinks the bleeding is most likely from sex. We had sex last night. I have not had anymore bleeding since. He told me to take it easy and rest a lot the next few days. No sex or exercise the next few weeks. I started the m/c at 9 weeks and 1 day last time and I am now 8 weeks and 5 day so I just was so nervous. I was so thankful to see that little flickering heartbeat.

Thankfully I have not had anymore bleeding. I am still so nervous about everything.

So I ordered a doppler and it came a few days later. I has taken me a few days but I finally found the heartbeat. I think I had been having the probe up to far on my belly. I found the heartbeat very low. Its such a great sound. I am glad that I bought it, very reassuring.

I went for my 12 week appt this morning. Everything looked good. All my vitals were good and the doctor found the heartbeat pretty fast. My weight was 141 pounds. I can start to exercise and everything again which I am happy about. I have been feeling so crappy that I have not wanted to anyways though. I have not been sick just not feeling well at all. Also I have developed an aversion to chicken, it just grosses me out. I feel like all I have been eating is salads and stuff. I have not been eating very much per meal either. I have also been so tired.

I went for my 16 week appt this morning. It went well. My blood pressure was good. I weighed in at 142 pounds. Only gained one pound which surprises me cause my appetite has been fine. He didn't seem concerned, he said atleast I have not lost any weight. I also have to go ahead and go a one hour glucose test in 2 weeks. If it is good then I will do another one at 28 weeks. So I go back in 2 weeks for the glucose test and the gender ultrasound. I can't wait.

Over the last week I have been feeling movement. At first I was just feeling little tickles but now it is movement. This baby is so low, I am feeling the movement where I wear my pants. It is not able to be felt from the outside yet but I am sure it will be soon. We go on Friday for our big u/s. I am getting anxious to find out what we are having.

I have been feeling not so good lately too. I still can't seem to eat very much at each meal. My belly is poking out for sure now though. Not enough to wear maternity stuff but getting close.

It's a girl. I am kind of shocked since this pregnancy has been so different. We are all excited about having sisters. I think it is going to be great. Everything looked good during the u/s, the baby was moving all around. I also did my glucose test today.

So the doctor office just called and I failed my one hour glucose test. I told them I really don't want to do the 3 hour test because I know I will fail that one too. The doctor was fine with that. I have to start watching my diet and checking my blood sugars. I am alright with it but it just stinks.

So my numbers have been pretty good. They did seem to be creeping up last week but this week they seem to be good. Following the diet is hard at times but I know it will be worth it in the end. Fred has been able to feel the baby now for a few weeks. Her kicks are getting stronger and stronger. Sometimes she will move and I can feel pressure. I can feel like a big bulge, like a head or something. It is crazy. My belly is really starting to stick out pretty good too. I have to go back to the doctor next Friday.

24 weeks today. Time is going by so fast. I went to the doctor this morning. I have gained 3 pounds in the last month, that's 5 pounds total now. My belly is getting bigger and bigger, I think it doubles in size by the end of the day though. The doctor said my glucose numbers were ok but he wants to see me in 3 weeks just to keep an eye on them.

Almost 25 weeks. My baby shower is on Saturday, I am getting excited about it. I feel kind of gulity even having a shower because we have so much from Katie. I really only need diapers, wipes and bath stuff. We have all the big stuff and lots of clothes. Although Samantha deserves new clothes too. I can't wait to meet her.

I had a doctor appt this morning. Everything is going well. BP was 110/50. My weight was 150 pounds. So that is nine pounds total of weight gain. I was measuring right on target. I have to go back in 2 weeks. I can't believe only 12 weeks to go. Its going by so fast.

I seem to be getting bigger and bigger. I am thankful that I have been feeling pretty good too. I am not as tired as I was in the begininng. My back has been hurting by the end of the day though, right in the middle. It feels better after I lay down for a while.

I am 30 weeks pregnant today. It is so crazy how fast it seems to be going. I went to the doctor on Monday. Everything looked good. I was still 150 pounds, I was surprised I had not gained anything in the last 2 weeks. The doctor took his time measuring me and said I was right on so he was not worried about not gaining anything. My BP and urine were good. My fasting numbers seem to be creeping up higher and higher, with the highest being 103 so far. If they continue to be above 100 he said we will have to do something about it. All this week they have been in the 90s. I have to good back on the 27th so I guess we will see what he says then.

So I went to the doctor today. My fasting numbers have been creeping higher and higher, they are now pretty steady in the mid 90s. A few times they have been in the hundreds. Higher than the doctors like. So I am going to start some NPH, long acting insulin at night. The doctor was sort of on the fence about weather or not to start me on it. He told me we could start some pills first but my problem is the fasting numbers and not my one hour after meals numbers. I told him I don't mind, I want to do what is right for the baby. He probably thinks I am crazy for actually being ok with starting it. My weight was up to 154 pounds.

I have been doing the insulin for a few days now and my fasting numbers have been in the 80's twice and this morning it was 77. I also seems to be helping my one hour after breakfast number too. I think the shot hurts less than poking my finger, which isn't a big deal either. Samantha has been moving around a ton lately and sometimes it is painful. She sticks her butt up and then moves legs or arms come out too. Crazy what she is doing in there. I got out the pack and play and the swing today. I wanted that stuff to be out for a while so Katie gets used to it. She was asking all sorts of questions when I first put it out so I think it was a good idea.

34 weeks pregnant today. Wow. I went to the doctor this morning, this was the third time I had to reschedule because of bad weather and they were closed. Anywho, my weight was 154 pounds, no change in the last 2 weeks. BP was good and urine was good. The doctor said my blood sugar numbers were looking good also and to keep the same dosage on the insulin. He told me that they start doing NSTs at 34 weeks when you start the insulin. I will do them once a week and then at 36 weeks twice a week. So they hooked me up the the monitors and gave me a button to push when I felt the baby move. I stayed on for about 20 mintues and she moved the whole time, she must have not liked the monitors. She was wiggling all around. Her heartrate was up and down which is what they like to see. The other monitor is for uterine activity and he told me if it goes over 20 that means I am having a contraction. It did go over about 3 times during the test. After they took me off he looked at it and said it looked good.

I went to the doctor today. My weight was the same, BP and urine were fine. They did a stress test and it went well. Then they did a ultrasound to check growth. I never had a late one with Katie so it was cool to see. He first measured the head, she was facing head down and face to the back so he had a hard time getting the measurment. Then he measured the abdomen, then the femur. They some how take all those measurments and come up with the estimated weight. They estimated her to be about five and a half pounds, which is in the 45%. The doctor was happy with all the measurments. He also measured fluid levels and said they were also good. I go back again on Thursday for my next appt.

I went to the doctor today now I am freaking out a bit. My weight was 157 pounds, BP and urine were good. I had a stress test and it looked good too. The doctor told me he would like me to go on my own but he will induce at 39 weeks. He said once you start insulin they do not like you to go to far along. I guess the placenta can deteriorate the further along you are with gestational diabetes. I hope this will not be a problem since I went into labor on my own at 39 weeks with Katie.

I had another stress test today. It went well. My weight was 159 pounds. The doctor told me that he is going to start stripping my membranes next Monday to see if we can jump start things a little. I am fine with that. They also did my group b strep test today.

I went to the doctor today. I can not believe that I will be 37 weeks tomorrow, where has the time gone. My weight was 159 pounds, BP and urine were good. They hooked me up to the monitors and little Samantha was I guess asleep. Heartrate was in the 120s and she was not really moving all that much. They left me on for about 35 minutes with the same results. He had me get up and take a little 5 minute walk and then tried again. She had woken up and was moving and they were happy with the heartrates then. I was there like an hour and a half. Also I am very happy to say that my group b strep was negative. I was surprised, I was positive with Katie so I just expected it again.

I went back to the doctor today. Weight was 159 pounds, BP and urine were good. I had a stress test and then he checked me. I was a fingertip dilated and he stripped my membranes. It didn't really hurt so I guess we will see what happens.

I went back to the doctor today. My weight was 161 pounds, that is 20 pound gain so far. BP and urine were good. Stress test was fine too. He checked me again, I was almost 2 cm dilated, he stripped my membranes again. I go back on Thursday. They also did another u/s to check weight. He had a hard time getting an accurate measurement of her head because she is running out of room. With all the measurements she is estimated at 6 pounds 15 ozs.

Samantha Leigh's Birthday

Fred and I got to the hospital at 6:30 as instructed and went right up to the labor and delivery floor. We went into room number four, which I am almost positive is the same room we had Katie in. I got my gown on and gave a urine sample. Then we just waited around for a while. At 7 the day nurse came on shift, Donna. Donna came in and started doing all her paperwork and put my IV in. At 7:30 she started the pitocin, she started it at the lowest level and told us they increase it every 30 minutes until your contractions are regular and have a good intensity. At 7:45 Dr A came in and broke my water. Not all that much came out and it kept gashing everytime I moved around. At 8 Donna came and increased the pitocin. I was having some contractions at this point but not many really and they were not painful. Mom got to the hospital about this time. When she came to increase the pitocin again I was having some good steady contractions so she said we could leave it were it was at. I was very thankful for that. I was doing well at this time with the contractions. I got up to go to the bathroom a few times and moving around was helping. So I was just trucking along fine. I sat on the birthing ball and moved around on it. I was really having to breathe and concentrate during contractions at this time. About 10 I got back into the bed so Donna could check me and see how far I was dilated. This is when things got very serious. I started contracting hard. When she checked me I was 4 cm. I was so upset that I was having a lot of pain and not very dilated. I told her I wanted an epidural. This was about 10:15. Fred asked if there was something they could give me now to see if it would help and hold off on the epidural, I love him. He knew that I really did not want an epidural. Donna told me she thought that I was going to go very quickly from that point. She brought me in a small dose of Fentanyl. She checked me again and I was 6 cm. This was about 10:30. She then told me she was going to go and call the doctor. I think the Fentanyl helped with the pain some but really helped me just to calm down and focus. Fred was right there in my face telling me to breathe and that I was doing great. Dr A came in about 10:45, checked me and I was 9.5 cm. Whoa I could not believe it. He then left the room and as soon as he did I told Donna I had to push. That sensation to push is so overwhelming there is no denying it. She pushed the call bell and told them she needed some help now and to get the doctor. I told her she was going to have to deliver this baby herself if they did not hurry. I could feel the baby moving down inside of me. All of the sudden all these nurses come dashing in and tear the bed apart and move me into position. Dr A then came in. I started to push with the contractions with all my might. I pushed for a few contractions, less than 5 minutes, and out came the head. When the head came out the cord was around it. Dr A pulled it over and then I pushed her shoulders and the rest of her out. She was born at 10:59. They suctioned out her mouth and nose and put her on my chest. Oh what sweet relief that was. I got to cut the cord. Her apgars were 8 and 9. We snuggled for a few then they took her to clean her up a bit. Dr A fixed me up and I delivered the placenta. My mom stayed in for the birth and she was so amazed and said it was the highlight of her life that she could witness it. Samantha weighed 7 pounds even and was 19 inches. Perfect. I am so proud of myself for the way the birth went. Even if I had still wanted the epidural there would have been no time for it before she was born anyways. I am still in shock at how fast that it went. We are so in love with her.
