September Baby

My name is Erin and I just found out I was pregnant this week. I am currently 4 weeks 2 days. Fred(my husband) and I have been trying for a few months now and just when I was starting to get worried that something may be wrong I got a Big Fat Positive. Fred and I have been married for a year and a half. We are both very excited about becoming parents for the first time. Of course both of us are also nervous. But thats normal right ?

We have not told anyone yet. I think we are going to tell my mom this evening. I am kind of nervous to tell people because you never know what is going to happen. But I know I would want their support if something was to happen. This will be the first grandchild for my mom and for Fred's parents. Fred's mom has been wanting a grandchild for a while, where my mom is more laid back about it. I think it's going to make her feel old. haha.

When I took the test and it was positive I was stunned. I really wanted to tell Fred in a special way but all I could think of was "here" and handed him the test. I think he is going to be a great father and I can't wait to see him hold our child for the first time. Since Wednesday I have taken 4 pregnancy tests. I am sure crazy ol me will still take some more too. I waited along time to see two line and the word PREGNANT, so I am going to take advantage of it. Plus I still don't feel pregnant so it gives me piece of mind. I think today I felt alittle sick to my stomach but it could be because I was just hungry.

I made my first appointment to see the doctor on Feb. 13th. I can't wait. I also went to the bookstore yesterday and got a week by week pregnancy book.

So I went and told my mom and stepdad. It went very well and of course my mom made me cry because she cried. Needless to say she is very happy and excited. I asked her what she was doing in September, I thought it was a funny way. She said she was very proud us.

Then we went and told Fred's parents. Oh my gosh his mom was funny, she jumped up and down. His dad was also very excited. She said she can't wait to go buy stuff.

Then since I had to work this weekend, Fred went to tell all of his grandparents and brother and some of our friends today. Everyone has been really excited for us.

I feel very nervous now that a lot more people know because what if something happens and blah blah blah. Plus I still don't feel pregnant. I have had some weird cramp like feelings today and I am more moody than normal. So now of course all the people that now know will tell people and so on. I just feel very overwhelmed by all this. I feel like it is a lot of pressure. So now it is just a matter before everyone knows. Which is fine with me it just makes me nervous. I just feel like I don't have any control over this right now.

Fred has been wonderful though. He has been asking me if I feel ok and if I need anything. I hope this last the whole pregnancy.

So everything seems to be going fine. I have been having some cramping on and off, which I looked up and read was normal. It said it was the uterus and ligaments stretching. So that makes me feel better but I am still nervous. I haven't felt sick but more like not really anything sounding good to me. I have been drinking milk like crazy though. It's what sounds good to me. I still plan on working out at least 3 days a week like I do now through the whole pregnancy if possible. I have just been going alittle slower and drinking plenty of water.

I really want to enjoy being pregnant, if I could just get over being so scared of the unknown. I know it is in Gods hands now and I am comforted by that. All I can do is keep myself healthy physically and emotionally and things will work out for the best.

My bbs are a little sore today, especially the nips. I really noticed it this morning when I was working out. Still having some cramping but no big deal. Nothing else yet. I was looking at maternity clothes today at the store and I can't imagine what I will look like then. I can't wait. Biggrin

I took yet another pregnancy test yesterday just to see what it looks like and boy was it positive. That just makes me feel better since I am not having too many other symptoms. I have been peeing lots and the cramping is not quite as bad as last week. I have been feeling just a tad sick first thing in the morning, then I eat a little something and feel better. Don't know if thats pregnancy or just hunger.

So we are going to tell my dad and stepmom this weekend. We are going to their house tonight and then leaving from there to go to the beach in the morning. Then we are coming back on Monday. My birthday is on Monday. I am going to be 25 and its freaking me out a bit. I don't feel 25, whatever that feels like. Thats a quarter of a century old...wow. Anyways I am looking forward to having a fun time this weekend. We will not have many more vacations without kids.

This week I have been so tired. I can not seem to stay awake in the evenings. Plus work has been so busy and I just feel like I can't keep up. I still have not told people at work but all family pretty much knows. I still feel nervous about everything in general, I can't wait until I go to the doctor.

My bbs have been more sore this week also. I just can not get over how tired I am. I normally have a lot of energy but I took a nap everyday this week that I was off. I have not taken naps on a regular basis since I was in nursing school and they worked us to death. I know they say this last until the start of the second trimester. But then again any symptom of pregnancy makes me feel better even if it makes me feel like crap.

I have not really been sick. I feel kind of ill first thing in the morning when I get up, but just like my stomach is empty and when I eat something it makes me feel better. Then when I eat meals throughout the day its like I don't eat as much because I feel up quickly but then of course I am hungry again sooner.

Off to go to sleep...

Today is the day, my first appt. I am so nervous that something is not right. I did not sleep well at all last night. A million things running through my head. There has been a lot of women have m/c's on the boards and it makes me nervous. I need to understand that God will protect me and has a plan for Fred and I. I didn't think I would be filled with so much uncertainty.

My appt went great. The doctor said everything looked good and I am measuring right on for 8 weeks and 6 days. They took some blood and asked history questions. I feel so much better about things now. They gave me a whole bag of goodies at the doctors office too.

I told work today that I am expecting. I was so excited and happy to tell them. It just makes me more excited. You know your work people become your family so it was great to clue them in. My friend Steph bought me a its a girl and its a boy balloons just to make sure everyone knew I was pregnant. It was just a nice day at work.

Nothing new going on. Still feeling a little sick whenever my stomach is empty then I eat and I feel fine. Bbs are still sore. My stomach does poke out some after I eat but not enough for anyone to notice except for me.

Fred and I went to Babies R Us yesterday and looked around. It was kind of overwhelming to see all the different stuff. Fred was so funny about asking what everything was for. We had a good time looking around. It kind of gives us an idea of what we want and need. We are going to do some research on car seats and stuff before we buy/register. We are going to do a Noah's Ark theme nursery. I am getting more and more excited about all this.

Almost 12 weeks already, where has the time gone. I have a doctors appt on Monday. Can't wait for Fred to hear the heartbeat. Still have not had much sickness, just a little when my stomach is empty then I eat and I am fine. I am so tired though. I was not expecting to be so tired. I have been going to bed early and taking naps during the day. I feel like such a bum lately but I am growing a baby so its ok. No change in my stomach, still pokes out after I eat but not enough to notice.

Fred started to paint the nursery, its a teal color now so he is just painting over it with white right now. We did order some Noah's Ark theme border and big stickers. They are so cute and we can use them for either sex.

I have a feeling the baby is a boy.

So today I was out shopping and at Sears I found a great deal. I got a Graco travel system (stroller, car seat and base) for $109. I also got a pack and play that matched for $50. Its dark blue and yellow so it would be ok if I have a girl. The baby doesn't care what it looks like anyways. Biggrin I can always girl it up with some pink ribbons or something. I thought this was a good deal, We had already decided we were going with the snugride car seat so it was perfect. We had looked at BRU and the same system is like $200. I feel kind of silly buying stuff so early but it was a good buy, so I think its fine. I go back to the doctor on Monday.

Had my appt this morning. Everything looked good. Fred went with me, we got to listen to the heartbeat with the doppler. It was 156 beats per minute. So now I am really thinking boy. It is so hard for me to believe there is a baby inside me. I still don't think I fully comprehend it, that we are in fact going to have a baby.

The doctor said the m/c rate is like 2-3% so that made me feel lots better about things. I go back to the doctor in a month for a 16 week appt then 2 weeks after that for the gender ultrasound. Things are going fast.

Finally the second trimester is here. I have been feeling pretty good lately. My energy has been better. I talked to my boss about going to weekend nights after the baby is born. I didn't know this but there is a list, so now I am on the list. Fred and I have talked about this for a while and we agree that weekend nights would be the best fit for our family. As a nurse there are just so many options, which makes it hard to figure out but really worth it. If I get that position we would not have to pay for daycare and I get to be a stay at home mom all week long. I really hope it works out for us.

So I had a few sick days. Sunday evening I had a major, terrible headache. It was awful. Then Monday when I got up to go to work I threw up. Now I have never been sick this whole pregnancy so I thought this was crazy. Well I went on in to work. I just felt so sick and just weak. So I left to come home that afternoon, I got home and took a nap. Then we went and got some dinner later and I started to feel a little better. So then Tuesday I feel like a new woman, not sick at all and making up for all the food I didn't eat on Monday. It must have been a bug so something, cause I have not been sick this whole time, surely I wasn't going to start at almost 15 weeks.

So now everything is back to normal. I hope to not be sick anymore. I am a terrible sick person. Can't wait to find out the gender and start to feel the baby move.

I had my 16 week appt this morning. Everything looked great. Heartrate was 145. My blood pressure was good. My weight was good. I now weigh 140, I have never weighed that much in my life but its for the baby so its ok. The doctor said I was gaining fine. I started out at 132, weighed 135 at 8 weeks and 137 at 12 weeks.

I had to work over the weekend and the doppler just happened to be down our hall. We normally use it to listen to pulses in feet that can not be felt but it can also be used as a fetal doppler. So of course I had to try it out, I was able to find the heartbeat right away. I was so cool to let the girls at work listen and I even called my mom and let her listen over the phone.

I have been feeling really good and can not believe I am already almost 17 weeks. We get to go back Wednesday the 18th to have the big u/s. I can't wait to find out what it is. I am sticking to my gut feeling that it is a boy but really I could care less what it is. I will be equally happy for either. I am just still so amazed that their is a little baby growing inside me. I still have not felt any movement yet. Things are starting to get more and more real.

Well today is the big ultrasound. I hope they can determine the sex. I get so nervous before I go to the doctor. I just pray that everything is healthy and normal. Fred and my mom are both going with me. I can't wait. I think last night I may have felt a little poke. Its so hard to be sure but I think thats what it was.

I can't believe it, its a GIRL. I so thought it was going to be a boy. The u/s went really well. Fred and my mom were there. I could not believe it when she said its a girl. I was holding Fred's hand when she said it, it was very sweet. We are both very excited. The tech said everything looked good. I was so relieved. After the u/s we went and bought some outfits for our new addition. It was great. Oh the tech also said the baby was low, no wonder I have to go to the bathroom so much. You could see her mouth opening and closing. It also looked like she was waving at us.

It is still sinking in that we are having a girl. It has been so much fun to tell everyone. I also think we have decided on a name. We are going to leave it open just in case we find something else. For right now we are going to name her Katherine Elizabeth. We will call her Katie. Katherine was my grandmothers name on my moms side, she died way before I was born and I always thought I would use that name if I had a little girl. My mom was really touched when I told her. Elizabeth was Fred's grandmothers name, on his moms side. She died a few years ago before we got married. She really meant a lot to Fred so I thought we could use her name too. I really like the idea of using family names. It really means something.

The only thing I was worried about was using all my good girl names up, but my mom helped me out with that. If we were to have another girl on down the line we could name her Samantha Lee. Samantha after Fred's grandfather Sam and Lee after my grandfather Roy Lee. We also were thinking of using Malcolm as a boys name. Malcolm was my moms maiden name.

I have been feeling some movement that last couple of days too. It feels so cool. I have to be sitting still to feel it and it is very light. I can't wait for Fred to be able to feel it too.

I had my 20 weeks appt today and it went well. They measured me for the first time and I was measuring right at 20 weeks. I had gained 2 pounds, so now I am up to 142. I have gained 10 pounds so far. Heartbeat was in the 150s. My blood pressure was good. I can't believe I am already half way there, time has went so fast. I am also feeling movement more regularly. I can feel it on the outside if my hand is there. She is still down way low.

Fred and I went and registered at Babies R Us yesterday. I am so glad that he went with me. I was going to go by myself so no one was rushing me but he came and was really helpful. He helped me make some decisions about some stuff and he had a great time with the scanner gun. It was so overwhelming to see all the stuff they have there.

Then today I went and registered at Walmart and Target. Its hard not to go a little crazy with the scanner. So thats one thing done with. We also decided we are going to paint the nursery yellow and white and use the Noah's Ark border we have. Can't wait to get the nursery more together.

Wow time is flying by. It seems like yesterday I was waiting for my BFP. I am getting more and more excited as the days go on. My stomach is definitely getting bigger. Fred thinks its funny when I get so out of breath when I am doing simple things like trying to put on my shoes and such. It crazy how your body works. It is still hard to believe that I am having a baby. I am feeling more movement everyday. It is such a special feeling.

Mother's Day was on Sunday. Fred got me a funny card. It said "Pregnancy can be a very hectic time in a woman's life. We would just like to make sure you don't lose sight on two very important things... your feet." I just giggled all day about that. My mom and Steph also got me cards and the people at work all signed a card for me. I was really touched. I feel like I am joining an elite group of women.

Fred felt her move last night for the first time. She was so active last night for some reason. I don't know if it was because she is getting bigger or what. It is so cool to feel her move on the outside.

Everything is going so fast. The baby is way more active now. Her kicks are getting stronger. I saw my stomach move for the first time with a kick. It is the most amazing thing to me. My mom has felt her kick now too. She always seems to be more active at night or I guess I just notice it more because I am still. My tummy is also poking out way more. There is no denying whats going on with me. It is so fun for me when people notice I am pregnant. It is such a special time for me. I am just having so much fun with it. I am going to the doctors for my 24 weeks appt on Friday. I got some really cute maternity clothes. I also got a bathing suit. I am feeling good too.

My mom came over last Saturday and started to paint the nursery. She really wanted to be the one to do it so Fred and I were of course fine with that. I think she may finish this weekend. It is looking really great. The bottom part of the wall is yellow and the top is white. The Noah's Ark border is going to be in the middle of the wall. We also picked out a crib. Things are really coming together now.

The baby is kicking so much more now. It just puts a smile on my face when she is kicking. I am going for a 3d ultrasound in July. Fred and I are having so much fun with the pregnancy. I just have loved being pregnant so far. I hope it continues. We went shopping on Monday and I got some maternity clothes. I just can't believe how blessed I am.

Wow things are moving fast. My mom came over on Monday and finished the nursery. It looks so cute. We also ordered the crib and it should be here in about a week or two. After she finished painting, she put up these big stickers that match the border we have. Then it took us forever to figure out how to arrange the room. The nursery is not all that big and we have a long dresser, rocking chair and crib to go in there. I already have the crib mattress, chair and dresser so we moved it all around to get the look we wanted. It really like the way we have it.

Now it just have to figure how to arrange all the clothes and other baby items. My first baby shower is July 15th. I can't wait.

I had my 28 week appt this morning. I drank the glucola they gave me last time before my appt. The drink was not all that bad, not nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I got my blood taken and then saw the doctor. He said everything looked good. Baby's heartrate was in the 140's. My blood pressure was good. My weight was 153 lbs. Thats five pounds up from last month, I think I am doing really well with that. Thats 21 pounds overall. My next appt in in 4 weeks.

Oh crap, I failed the one hour test. My results were 181 and they like them to under 139. Now I have to take the three hour test tomorrow. I can't believe it. Everything has been going so well. My weight has been super. I just don't know what to think. Guess I have to wait and see what the three hour test shows.

So I went and took the three hour test. The drink was 100 grams of sugar as opposed to the 50 grams for the one hour test. It was boring sitting there for three hours and of course it was not fun getting poked 4 times to have my blood taken. Glad its over and hopefully will know the results by Thursday or Friday.

I suppose it is not a bad idea to watch my carb/sugar intake anyways so I went to the grocery store after my test and picked some better food choices. I think if I pass the test I am going to keep any eye on my sugar levels anyways.

Oh my...I can't believe I failed the three hour test. So now I have to wait for the nutrionalist to call me back so I can get set up with a glucometer and learn all about diet. I have already been doing research since Monday when I found out I failed the one hour. Hopefully with some diet modifications I can be alright. It is just really frustrating because everything has been going so well for me. I am really nervous now though. I thought I was doing so well with everything, I am just so upset. I know that I can do what I need to do to have a healthy baby I guess I just need to get over the shock of being diagnosed.

I had my ultrasound done today and it was so neat. She is definitely a girl. The pictures are so cool. It is just so surreal that there is a baby in there and in about 10 weeks she is going to come out. She was being a little stinker in the being, she kept putting her hand over her face. She finally stopped being camera shy and moved it.

I also went to the hospital this morning and talked to the diabetic educator, I guess another perk of working at the hospital. She set me up with a glucometer and gave me some info. I am already planning to talk to the dietician on Monday. I hope I can control the diabetes with diet, I really don't want to have to do insulin.

Whoa time is flying by. It is so crazy to think that in 10 weeks we are going to have a baby. I am feeling a little overwhelmed though. I feel like we have so much to do before the baby comes. I mean we have the nursery ready except for all the stuff that goes in it. Everyone keeps telling us not to buy anything because we are having three showers. I understand that but it is hard to wait. I want things to be ready and done before the baby gets here. It is so hard to know that she will come when she is ready and not when I am ready.

On another note, the gestational diabetes is going ok. I feel like I must be going through carb withdrawal or something. I was still hungry after we ate dinner last night and all I could think about was how bad I wanted a chocolate milkshake and some M&Ms. I decided that I am going to let myself have one treat a week. I am saving up this week for Sundays baby shower at my moms. My numbers have been very good this week. I have never really followed a diet so counting carbs is all new to me. I am so used to just trying to eat healthy. But in the long run I think this will mean I will gain less weight and have less weight to get off after the baby comes.

I am also so tired of people telling me I am big. I have only gained 21 pounds so far. I think it is because I am small to begin with and you can see my bump better than girls that are bigger to begin with. Plus all my bump is straight out in front of me. I would never tell a pregnant woman she was big. Every pregnant woman is beautiful. Fred jokes with me that from the back you can't even tell I am pregnant. He has been so sweet lately. He likes to talk to the baby and he loves it when she kicks him. I just can't believe we are going to be parents soon.

So following the gestational diabetes diet is difficult. My numbers have been pretty good though. I know what I have to do it just sucks to do it. I know it's for the baby so it makes it a little easier. I have been more tired lately also. The 12 hour shifts at work are getting hard. By the end of the day I am so worn out. I feel so slow now too. This is the last week I have to work 3 12 hour shifts. I start working 2 12 hour and 1 8 hour shift next week. It is only 4 hours less but I hope it helps some. My next shower is August 5th at work. I am so excited about it. My friend Stephanie is getting it all together and she always goes way out for everything she does. I can't wait.

I had my 32 week appt today. The doctor said everything is looking great. I actually lost 2 pounds since last month. Down now to 151 pounds. He was not concerned about that since I am measuring right on. My blood pressure was good and Katie's heart rate was in the 150's. It is so hard for me to believe that in about 8 weeks I am going to have a baby. The doctor also said that my blood sugar numbers are doing really well. He said it was common for moms with gestational diabetes to lose weight when they first find out because of following the diet. That is the silverlining in all this. I will not gain as much weight as I probably would have.

I had my baby shower at work today. Whoa is all I can say, my friends are great. I got so much stuff. Lots of clothes and they are all so cute. I had a great time. My friend Stephanie threw the shower for me and she went all out with the decorations and food.

After the shower my mom and I organized the nursery. We got all the clothes put away and hung the curtains. It looks really nice. I was glad to get stuff put up, it really takes some anxiety away. I just can't believe that in like 6 weeks we are going to have a baby.

I have my breastfeeding class tomorrow night and our first childbirth class is on Tuesday. We are getting really close to the end now.

I had my breastfeeding class last night at the hospital. It was very informative and the hospital is so pro breastfeeding. My childbirth class that was tonight got cancelled because the instructor is sick so we are going Thursday night.

We had our first childbirth class last night. It went well. We talked all about labor. The stages of labor and normal time frame for each and what happens with each stage. We also watched a video of a birth. Then we did some breathing exercises. Our next class is Tuesday. I think these classes are going to be very helpful so that we know what to expect.

We had our second childbirth class on Tuesday night. It was very informative. It was all about medical stuff. It was scary though to talk about all the interventions they could do. It makes me really really want a natural birth. Even though I am not dead set against medications because I just don't know what to expect.

I also talked to my boss yesterday and got my weekend night position squared away for when I come back from maternity leave. I also got the paperwork started for when I am out of work. This is all happening too fast and I am not ready yet. I started to get some things together for my hospital bag. I just can't believe we are so close to having this baby, when is it finally going to hit me.

We had our third childbirth class last night. It was about postpartum and things they do after the baby is born. Then we took a tour of the labor and delivery rooms and the postpartum rooms. It was nice to see everything up close and personal. It is making it seem more real. I can't believe how close we are to the end of pregnancy and the beginning of Katie's life.

I have started to pack my hospital bag too. I got most of Katie's stuff together but some stuff for me I have to wait until the it is time to go. I have my 36 week appt tomorrow. They are going to check me the first time to see if I am dilated at all. Everyone at work seems to think I am going to go early for some reason. I guess we will see but I don't think I will. We have our last shower on Sunday at my dad and stepmoms house. I am really excited about it.

I had my 36 week appt today. Heartrate was 155. My bp was good, weight was 156 pounds, thats a 24 pound weight gain so far. I measured right at 36 weeks. The doctor did the strep group B test. He didn't check me which is fine with me. He said he may not check me next week either, depending on if I am having contractions or not. I would rather not be checked anyways. It is really not a good way to tell when you will go into labor. Katie will come when she is ready.

We had our third and last baby shower on Sunday. It was at my dad's and stepmom's. My dad gave us a bassinet. It was lots of fun and we got a lot of stuff. We finally got some diapers and wipes. Then we came home and pretty much finished getting the nursery ready. I am really happy with the way that the nursery came out, I think it looks great.

Our last childbirth class is tonight and I have my 37 week appt on Thursday. I have been very tired lately, I guess it is from the busy weekend and getting all the nursery stuff done. Plus working 12 hour shifts are getting very hard.

We had our last childbirth class on Tuesday. I am so glad that we took the classes, I think it made both of us more prepared for what to expect in the hospital and afterwards. I would suggest them to all first time parents. I think I finally got the nursery all done. I can't believe I am so close to the end. I have to go the doctor today. I have been having some BH contractions off and on and this week I seem to be having some clear discharge. Guess that is my body gearing up.
