    Default I don't know where to look

    There are HUNDREDS of posts! I'm looking for a GREAT AWESOME spaghetti sauce receipe. You know, one that you cook ALL DAY LONG! Does anyone have one of these?

    Kathleen, We make our own spaghetti sauce and freeze it but basically I wing it. I am curious to see what kind of response you get.

    Here ya go! Enjoy! This recipe is awesome. It's the same that a friend of mine made for us when Lil D was born. She is Italian and this is how her family has always made it.

    Spaghetti Sauce Italiano
    2 tablespoons olive oil
    1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
    1 large onion, chopped
    1 green pepper, chopped
    4-5 cloves garlic, chopped
    1 (14.50 ounces) can chopped tomatoes
    1 (6.00 ounces) can tomato paste
    8 ounces sliced mushrooms
    1/2 teaspoon sugar
    6 ounces inexpensive red wine
    1 tablespoon dried basil
    1 tablespoon dried oregano
    salt and black pepper

    1. In a large pot, add red pepper flakes in olive oil, stir 1 minute.
    2. Sauté onion and green pepper in olive oil at medium heat.
    3. Add garlic and sauté 2 minutes.
    4. Add canned tomatoes, tomato paste, mushrooms, sugar, and red wine.
    5. Stir in spices, cover, and simmer, stirring every 15 minutes.
    6. After 2 hours, add more wine if sauce is too thick and re-season.
    7. Sauce should cook on low heat for at least 3 hours.
    8. Remove from heat, cool, and refrigerate overnight.
    9. The next day, heat sauce over low-medium heat.
    10. Add 1 lb of your favorite meatballs or sausages.
    11. If adding 1 lb of meatballs and sausages, double sauce recipe.
    12. Serve with your favorite pasta, grated cheese, red wine, and crusty bread.

    That sounds about like what we make. However we don't use sugar because of DH being diabetic so we add a small pinch of baking soda to cut the acid instead.

    Be careful on the wine... if you don't like the taste of it out of the bottle then it will ruin your sauce. I have added wine to sauces thinking well it's not great for drinking.... maybe in the sauce it will be fine......ha I learned my lesson....
