I am looking for high fat, high calorie recipes. Why..you ask? My ds is on medication that substantially decreases his appetite. He is already light weight and I have to make each calorie that goes into his mouth count. Therefore, I need to give him foods that are high in fat and calories. Any suggestions?
:lol: Madeline was on this sort of diet for a while. She was diagnosed as "Failure To Thrive" at 18 months old because she only weighed in at 15 pounds and was losing weight. We finally found that above all else she would eat hotdogs, green beans, and brownies. So, we fed her hotdogs, greenbeans and brownies for a year. :lol: She did eat other things, but her main diet was those three things! :shock: At her 2 yr check up she weighed in at 18 pounds! So, after 6 mos of hotdogs, green beans, and brownies, she only gained 3 pounds! :shock: (I wish I could do that!)
Anyways, I think the main thing to do is not provide any of the lower fat alternatives, and allow him pretty much whatever he wants as long as he is still getting the essential vitamins and minerals. I would make sure to provide all the necessary vegetables, but add cheese to them for extra fats. I think things like that might be your best bet. Perhaps there is a nurtitionist you could talk to about suggested foods or preparation methods that would help increase the fat and calories in his diet.

Cherry Salad -
1 can of cherry pie fillings
1 can of Eagle Brand Milk
1 Container of Cool Whip
1 tsp of almond flavoring
1 cup of pineapple - crushed and drained
1 cup of pecans
1/4 cup of lemon juice
Mix pie filling and milk together. Add Cool Whip, flavoring, and lemon juice. Mix in pineapple and pecans...
Store in refrigerator.
A very fattening dessert! Enjoy!
I say give nuts! Add extra butter to thing, advacods are high in "good" fat make some guacamole with some tortilla chips (MMM that sounds soo good!) Even if you do not like guac,,,she may! good luck!
Sue- My son is very thin- painful thin. I have taken him to a Dr. to discuss his diet- the key for us is to serve healthy food, but high calories food. I have lots of ideas for you, but I am on my way to bed- I promise I will get back to you.
What about getting him to drink some of those drinks like Ensure. I know they have them out for children. They are loaded with protein and vitamins, etc. The ones for children are supposed to taste pretty good too, kind of like a milkshake.
When I was pg with DS1 I was sick and lossing weight, and had a hard time eating (no appetite, but I would drink), my nutritionalist suggested a smoothy (loaded with calories). I blended berries, bananas, and OJ and froze it in ice cube trays. In a blender I would mix two of the cubes with some yogurt, whole milk and some carnation instant breakfast powder. Two or three of those a day did the trick for me, maybe you ds will drink them. Best of luck to you!

I'm Lara and my dd has multiple food allergies. It was impossible to get fat into this kid for a year or so. Some good choices -
Canola, flaxseed. or Olive oil on rice or bread
Boiled eggs (if he can eat eggs)
Instant breakfast shakes in whole milk (if milk isn't an issue)
Hommeade puddings with egg and whole milk
Nuts - if they're not an issue
Make sure you're not letting him eat crud just to up his calorie count. Go for nutrient dense foods like the ones above.
