Alissa, I love the name Denzel. :D He sounds like a good kid and it's really sad that he's had such a rough life so far. Ugh! it p!sses me off to no end to hear about children getting abused. He really is lucky to have such caring people around him to help him succeed in life. Maybe he'll be a famous football player one day. :D I truly hope everything works out for him.
LOL@ your mom's diet dr. pepper comment. I was a diet dr. pepper junkie but switched to diet coke with splenda. Since you appear to be quite normal and intelligent (;) ) maybe I can go back to my beloved diet dr. peppers!
We're only going to be in Dallas for 2 days. I'll try to remember to snap some pics!
FL sounds like so much fun! Lucky gal, you were just there not too long ago too! OMGosh, T is going to freak about Disney. Does he know yet?! I hope you guys have a wonderful time!
Jessica, I'm pretty excited about the Fair. I can't believe I've never been...I didn't even know about it til' last year. When Hubby was telling me about the Texas State Fair, I was like Wha?! WTH is that?! LOL I grew up in Houston attending the Rodeo so I don't feel like I really missed out but dang it, I wish I had known about a lot sooner! I'm sorry that your dad didn't let you indulge at the fairs. It sucks that it has affected you enough to not want to eat around him as an adult. :(
How are you feeling today?
Jina - Funny story about the name Denzel. It is pronounced "Den-ZELL". My grandpa's name is "Denzil" pronounced "DEN-zil". When T was about 2, DH was introducing us to Denzel for the first time, and T looks up at him and says, all confused "Grandpa?" Keep in mind that Denzel was a 6'6 African American 17 year old at the time, and my grandpa (who T hardly ever sees but he hears about) was like a 70 something year old 5'10 white dude with a big white beard (He would be a great candidate for Guys Who Look Like Kenny Rodgers.) We laughed and laughed.
Anyway, yes, have a GREAT time in Dallas, and def try to snap some pics for us! I will do the same in FL.
 about the appearing to be normal - boy do I have you fooled!
Jessica - I am really sorry that your dad made you feel self conscious about eating in front of him. That sucks! I'm sure he probably didn't mean to make you feel that way; he probably just wanted to try to protect you from whatever he has been through in his life being overweight, but still. (((HUGS))) The fair is a place to have a special yummy treat if ever there was a place to do that. :) Agree with Jina - how are you feeling today? Is the m/s staying away?
AFM - Not much going on over here. We are going to my mom's house for dinner tonight, which will be nice. She is making tuna cakes at my request (like crab cakes or salmon cakes, but using tuna because it's cheaper - an old family favorite lol). Other than that, just waiting for the workday to be over. Hope everyone is having a nice day. :)
Jina - all this talk about the state fair makes me wanna go back to North Carolina! We have a state fair in VA, but I hear it's like a quarter of the size of the one in Carolina. I remember "panning for gold" except it was more like panning for ruby/sapphires. The bags of dirt were SO expensive, but dad would always buy me one. We found a ruby once - the guy said it would pay for us going to the state fair and buying whatever we wanted for like 5 years... ...I have no idea where it is now..lol
AFM, The m/s is come and go. I felt really gaggy today, but haven't thrown up. Yet. I made nachos for dinner by request. I have to admit, I make bangin nachos and a friend wanted them. I told DH what she wanted and he was totally on board, he loves my nachos too. I pile them HIGH with stuff, but not too much to make the chips soggy. But -as good as they look - I don't want any. *sigh* I know I need to eat, but I'm not hungry and I'm afraid if I do eat that I'll throw up. Not that that would be anything different LOL I ate a piece of a tomato, does that count? Haha. DH has to work extra long tomorrow - hes already on 10 hour days, so no tellin' when he'll get home tomorrow. Plus he requested off Saturday for his friends wedding and he said he's gotta work. I don't think he wanted to go to the wedding anyway and this is a chance for him to make super overtime, so he's kind of onboard, but.. he feels semi bad because it's his friend. I think if his friend would pay more attn to Tim, it'd be different but every SINGLE time Tim invites him somewhere (even in advance) his fiancee has "other" plans. Tim's invited both of them, but it's always a no go. PLUS, I think his fiancee was hitting on Tim a few years ago. She would appear at Tim's work to "talk" about her fiancee, but.. that didn't really sit well with me. Plus, I knew she was cheating on her fiancee already, so it REALLY didn't sit well with me... Sooo..I told her to back off. She may have meant well, but..the jealous monster came out of me and ...she backed off. Tim felt uncomfortable with her there and would have me on the phone the whole time, so I just put an end to it. Oh..and she's hit on me before ... LOL. ANYWAY, I assume we're going to miss the wedding. Gosh I always get up here with not much to say and end up writing a novel...LOL
Jessica - Welcome to 16 weeks! Woot! Woot! :bumshakin:
Yuuummmmm - I must be hungry because nachos sound GOOD. Sorry that you only got to eat a little peice of tomato. How do you keep the chips from getting soggy? That is my problem, I don't know how to melt the cheese without baking it on the chips, which often makes the chips kind of soggy especially in the middle.
OMG about the friend's fiancee - just hitting on people left and right! Awkward! I would not be okay with someone like that just randomly showing up to DH's work just to talk...it's like "Go talk to your mom, or your girlfriends....leave my hubs alone!"
AFM - Another busy weekend ahead of us! Tonight after work I am taking T to a "Kids' Spooktacular" party at our Rec Center. He is going to wear his Darth Mal costume, and they have trick or treating, a "Haunted Mansion" (but geared towards littler kids, so presumably not too scary) and other fun Halloween stuff. On Saturday DH has a debate competition (he is one of the Debate Coaches at his school) so it's going to be just T and I. I will take T to gymnastics in the morning, and I want to decorate the house for Halloween. Then in the afternoon my mom and dad are going to have T up to their house to help my mom set up her "Halloween village." She collects minature houses and whatnot that are Halloween themed. On Sunday, I am taking T to a birthday party for one of his friends, and then we have to go to another birthday party for DH's uncle. Pshew!
Oh, AND DH asked me last night, if need be, would I be okay with Denzel coming to stay with us until the next semester starts in January. They are going up to Greeley today, and the best case scenario is that he will end up staying with one of his teammates, but the coaches can't get him in to student housing until he is actually a registered student starting in January. I guess he sort of has a place to stay now with a friend, but the friend's mom doesn't like anyone to be there when she is at work, so during the day he goes to a nearby park and walks around and sleeps on a bench. It's getting cold here! I'm like, oh no no no no. That kid is not spending his days on a freaking park bench in late October in CO. If he doesn't get a place to stay in Greeley, bring him home tonight. So, there may be a (temporary) new addition to our household when I get home tonight.
DH and I had a long talk last night about how we're going to handle it if he does come stay with us for a couple of months. Unfortunately we don't have a room for him right now, but DH said that if he does come, part of the deal will be that he has to help DH clean out and repaint the spare bedroom which is eventually going to be T's new room. Then we can either borrow my mom and dad's inflatable mattress, or buy one if need be, and he can sleep in that room. Since the new baby isn't due until late March or early April, if he is up in Greeley by mid-January when the semester starts, that will still give us 3-ish months to move T's stuff to the new room and get T's current room set up as the nursery (which won't take much work).
The other rules about Denzel staying with us is that he has to get a job and save his money. We aren't going to charge room and board, but he still needs to find a productive way to spend his time during the next three months. Also, we aren't his peers; as long as he lives with us, no drinking or anything else like that (he's underage) and he will have a curfew, just like if he was our kid. A curfew may sound kind of strict for a 19 year old, but the one thing this kid needs more than anything is stability, and we don't think he can get that if he is just coming and going as he pleases and doing whatever he wants. He will also need to help out around the house by doing small chores (dishes, cleaning his own bathroom, stuff like that.) So....if this happens, wish us luck. I can't say that I'm not a little nervous about bringing someone into our home like this, but I do feel in my heart that it's the right thing to do. And, it's not like he's a stranger - he is someone that we know is a good kid who just really needs some direction and stability. He didn't get much of that with his parents, unfortunately.
Anyway, I hope that you all have a great weekend!
Alissa - good luck if he comes to stay with you. Hopefully he won't be a problem and he'll realize what you're doing for him. Those rules sound like the rules I set forth for my brother - and... yeah, they don't get followed. I remember when I set a curfew in place (my dad always said nothing good happens after midnight) and he like..threw a FIT! Nowadays hes gone for days at a time - his girlfriend and his best friend live like two blocks away so I know where he is, but... I'd almost rather him BE gone, it's less stress on me. That sounds horrible. Anyway, you're doing a good thing for him... and at 19 he should really recognize that you're going above and beyond. I really hope everything works out for you, I know it's gotta be kinda nerve wracking bringing someone in who hasn't really had a good "upbringing". But the fact that hes going through all this JUST to be able to play ball at college says something about his character. Good luck with getting him in to school too! Your DH sounds like a great man to help him out like this. Hope you have a good time at T's Halloween stuff.
AFM, DH sent me a text saying he's gotta *probably* work all weekend. We spent all last weekend together, so I'm not too bummed about it - maybe I can get this house clean. ....maybe. I've had a weird pain today...actually it's not a pain, more like a throbbing like (TMI ALERT) right around my ...oh man I can't even say the word or type it! I hate talking about *down there* related stuff! LOL. It's around my.. ah.. um.. okay okay, clitoris OMG I can't believe I typed that. It went away earlier, it seems to come around when I need to pee. Plus I've had extra discharge today so that's always fun - so of course I'm checking the TP like a madwoman between the "pain" and the discharge. Anywho, Alissa - are you still using your doppler? Are you feeling your LO still? I'm super excited to get to that point! I thought I felt something last night, but I'm sure it wasn't baby. I think it's too early for me to feel 'em as a FTM.
Hope you guys are doing great!
Jessica - Yes, I am definitely worried about what will happen if he is a problem and doesn't follow the rules; but I am just hoping that if he does come to stay with us, it will be okay. Honestly, he's a very quiet and mellow kid, so it's hard to imagine him throwing a big fit about stuff or breaking the rules, but it could still happen. So....we'll see what happens. But yes, he worked hard in h/s to get decent grades and train hard at football just so that he would have a chance to go to college and then this year when he ran into problems with his financial aid he didn't just give up, he called DH and some other people to help him figure out what he needed to do (since his freaking parents are NO help) and got everything done that he needed to do, and now he's all set to go back in January. He wants to go to college, and he doesn't give up, and I think that says a lot about him. But, he's still a 19 year old kid, and one that comes from a bad family life, and I know he's not going to be perfect. Let's just hope we can find a good balance if he does come to stay with us.
Yes, I still use my doppler. I don't use it every day, just a couple of times a week. I do still feel my LO every day now, but I still worry if I haven't felt her in a little while, so I still use the doppler. Our LOs are still fairly small, so even once you start feeling him or her, it probably won't be really consistent for a while. Which I tell myself, but I still worry about it. LOL I used mine just this morning, as a matter of fact. How often do you use yours?
I haven't felt that particular throbbing thing, but every once in a while I get a pain that seriously feels like someone stabbed a needle right into my hoohah, so that's fun. I think all of it has to do with stretching ligaments. Ah the joys of pregnancy. :)
Alissa, omgosh, that is so hilarious about T calling Denzel grandpa. LOL! So cute! :D I hope you enjoyed the tuna cakes last night. That actually sounds really good right about now. :)
Wow, sounds like you have another busy but fun weekend ahead of you. I didn't know that your DH is also the debate coach. He is really involved with the kids at his school, huh? That's awesome. Do you guys get into heated debates? Hubby and I do sometimes. BUT, I do agree with him 99.9% of the time. We have the same morals/views on things but I do like to argue the other side no matter what. It doesn't matter if I agree or not....I just...have to. Makes Hubby pretty frustrated. lol
I think it's pretty awesome of you guys to take him in if need be. That is a huge undertaking and not everyone would be willing to do that. That is really sad that he wanders around aimlessly and sleeps on park benches (this is really reminding me of the movie The Blind Side. One of my favorite movies ever). I think the rules you have set are completely reasonable and not strict at all. Getting a job and saving money will be really great for him too. I also think having a curfew will help him realize that even though he's 19, he's still a kid and you guys are the adults. He really does sound like a good kid and I'm sure he realizes and appreciates everything everyone is doing for him. I truly hope everything works out. Please KUP.
Jessica, Yay!!! An avocado!!! :yahoo:
Oh man, panning for gemstones sounds awesome! You guys should go to the Fair before baby comes as a babymoon or something. I think that would be so much fun!
Mmmm.....nachos! That sucks that you didn't even get to enjoy your yummy nachos. :( Do you think that you could keep down Ensure? Maybe you could give it a try? I really hope you start feeling better. It's not fair that you have suffer through m/s still!
Wow, the bride sounds like she's a huge flirt or just waaaaayyy too friendly. Or has boundary issues. I don't blame you DH or you for feeling uncomfortable around her. I wonder if the groom knows that she hits on everyone!
I'm sorry about the pain. I hate getting weird random pains everywhere. I swear I feel like an old person. Does the pain feel like a UTI? Hopefully the pain goes away soon!
I felt baby for the first time around 17 weeks so you're not too far behind! I can't wait for you to start feeling the baby. The best feeling in the world, imo! :D
AFM, I gotta get going here. I hope you guys have a wonderful weekend!!!!
Hi ladies! I recognize a few of you from April 2013. I just did a re-introduction on the main page of this board and thought I would jump onto this thread... it was my favorite place to hang a few years ago when I was on PAL. Infact I made a lot of great friends that I am still in touch with from this board and thread ;) Hope to do the same again!!
Yay!! Someone else to read my novels! :yahoo: LOL Welcome!!!
Jina - we..okay, I, have somewhat planned a babymoon. It's too cold to do anything outside (I wanted to go camping)...and it's getting close to Christmas, so we don't want to be spending money when we need to focus in on that. But, I told DH that maybe in January we can just..get a hotel room for the weekend and be like tourists or something. I live somewhat near Williamsburg and Virginia Beach and even though I've visited those places 1000 times, I haven't visited with him. I'm hoping it's not TOO cold and maybe we can do some miniature golf or museums or something. The bride is... I don't know how to explain her. She's nice, but she's twofaced. The fact that she's already cheated on her husband-to-be doesn't bode well for the marriage AND she told me that she doesn't really know if she wants to be with him, but she's been with him so long she doesn't think anyone else will want her.
Just popping in to say hi :wavehello: I've been reading but haven't had much time to post. It was a busy week and weekend for me. Ill try to chat more this week. I have officially been up too late right now though as I saw my ticker change from 5 weeks to 5 weeks 1 day. I've got to get in bed. Hope everyone has a good Monday. :)
