    Unhappy Cervix dilation

I just started my 1st day bedrest at home today at weeks. My pregnancy has been normal til yesterday I went to my doctor for check up due to vagina pressure n pain. She did a vagina exam for me. She told me my cervix was little bit dilated n sent me to birth center in the hospital. I stayed there for 8 hrs. My ob suggested that I might need to get a stitch, but she had to talk to another doctor at women hospital. After few hours of waiting n a vaginal ultrasound, she told me the stitches are not required at this point. She just sent me home for bedrest. I'm still really worried n frustrated as I m only 20 weeks with 2 gals twins. My ob said next milestone is 24 weeks. I am afraid to sit straight n go to bathroo
. I m reAlly frustrated, but my ob seems to be calm
After she discover my cervix length is little more than 3 cm. Has anyone gone thru bedrest at 20 weeks due to cervix dilation?

I'm sorry you are worried. I don't know what a typical measurement at 20wks should be. I know at 28wks I was 1.3 or something, and ended up in the hospital for the weekend, and home on bedrest from there on out. I was not completely flat, more like couch rest, reclined sitting, feet up. At 31 wks I failed my ffn (fetal fibronectin test) and ended up on hospital bedrest for 5 wks. At that point my doc said he did not want me at a 90 angle at all. At 31wks I was 4cm dilated and 100% effaced, and I still made it to 36wks.

You do all that you can do, follow your docs orders and take it easy, and hopefully your cervix will comply as well.

Thank you for so much for ur reply. I think my cervix was dilated for more than 2 cm. Hopefully, my babies can stay longer til 32 weeks. My doctor allowed me to do some light duties, but no shopping at all. I just want time to pass by quicker. It isn't easy to stay bedrest all day long especially Christmas is coming. Anyways, u made me feel better. Thanks

I would take it very seriously and lie down all that you can even through Christmas preparations, which I know can be difficult while you're still feeling just fine. I didn't get a stitch because my OB doesn't do that after viability. I started modified bed rest at 26 weeks and am off it now at 37+ weeks. Lying around can work, that's for sure! As of now, I have been 2 cm dilated for a few weeks and am intentionally trying to get these twins out with nothing happening.

I have no advice as I never dilated until labour and even then had to be drug assisted. But I'm sorry that you are going through this. Keep your feet up and keep those babies baking.

Take it veryyyyy seriously as I went into preterm labor at 23 weeks 4 days and they would not save the babies because of the strict 24 weeks rule. That being said, be sure to rest as much as you can and do whatever the doctors want you to do. I was on bedrest in the upside down position for 11 days and finally gave birth at 25 weeks because I was dilated to a 4 and had a bulging bag and caught an infection. It was very scary and I would hate for someone else to have to go through it. I don't mean to scare you but it can progress very quickly without warning. Listen to your body--if something doesn't feel right don't hesitate to go to the hospital ASAP!
