Default I posted this on my November board but thought you ladies would

    have some more insight.

What are the chances that the tech would miss a 2nd baby on a dating ultrasound at 6 weeks??? Tonight I was using my doppler and I swear I could hear a heart rate on the left side between 130 to 150, and then moved it around a bit and heard a heart beat on the right side between 140 and 160. My husband thinks I'm nuts.... that its one baby, and at one angle I could hear it, but not get as accurate of a reading, and on the other side I was just picking it up better. What do you guys think? I'm kinda freaking myself out here lol

My great grandpa was a twin I believe, but thats the only twins I know of any where in my family history. There are NO twins on my husband's side... and I have never used fertility med or any sort of fertility type treatments... so I dont know that I am at a high risk for twins.

I'm really nervous because of my history of preterm contractions and early babies (DS2 was born at 36 weeks, and DD was induced at 36 weeks and 5 days for low amnio)... also, I have OI, a vertebra out of place in my back, and am only 4ft 9in. I was going into this pregnancy looking forward to a smooth pregnancy with only a 40% chance of "complications"... I'm afraid that having 2 babies in there would just completely change the ball game... so to speak.

I really admire moms who are able to carry and raise twins. A friend of mine went to have #4 and ended up having #4 and #5, and another friend of mine went in to the ER with abdominal only to find out that she was pregnant... with twins lol. I am just on edge

In all likelihood it's not twins. But hey, the same was true for me! At 5.5 weeks they saw one baby on the ultrasound. I found out about the second baby at about 12 weeks. There are also no twins in my family. Don't worry yet about added complications, I know you know it's silly to stress about hypotheticals. That said, I also have back issues and had spine surgery 5 months before getting pregnant with twins and all is well.

I'm not sure what to tell you only because I knew before the tech told me it was twins and they were both in plain sight for us to see @ 9 weeks. Now having said that we have a mom here that had she not gone to the washroom during the u/s they would not have seen the second baby. I would talk to your doctor. Maybe they would have more insight and order another u/s. how far along were you at your first u/s? Maybe you're like Shelia and you were to early to see the second babe.

My dating ultrasound put me at 6 weeks... LMP put me at less, so the tech was really surprised to see anything, especially through my abdomen. I am 13 weeks now, and my next appt is on the 29th... a day before I am 15 weeks. I messaged my PA on FB (shes a friend of mine) and she recommended just talking to my OB at my next appt. I may call my OB and ask her what she thinks... maybe she'll schedule more time for a quick US and peek to be sure. From what I'm reading it is more than likely not twins... missed twins is very uncommon these days I guess.... but, anything is possible

Actually, I think missed twins is uncommon at birth these days but very typical before 12 weeks.

Do you have any other symptons that might indicate twins? For me, I suspected twins due to my early showing and weight gain and also my hunger (it was ridiculous how much I ate and still felt hungry, especially in the morning). I had bad ms as well, but so can a women pregnant with a singleton. I started feeling movement around this time so if think you are feeling something that could also be a sign. KUP if they find anything. HH9M to you either way

Thanks I did start showing earlier than other people, but I am 4 ft 9in, and this is my 4th. My uterus was above my pubic bone by 10 weeks, but my doc said that she wasnt surprised given my size and that this is my 4th. I've had MS with all of my kids, with my 2nd it was so bad I ended up on meds, so its hard to go by that. I have felt movement in the last week or so... and thought I was earlier, but I also felt DD around this point... I have gained more weight than I have in the first trimester with the other 3... With DS1 I lost weight, and with DS2 and DD I didnt start gaining till the end. I am now up almost 5 lbs... but, that is still considered normal... just weird for me...

I messaged my PA on FB (shes also a friend of mine) and she said to just bring it up at my next appt... which isnt till the 29th. I am thinking of calling on monday just to give my OB a heads up... maybe she'll want to schedule more time for an US... I dont know. At that point I will be 1 day away from being 15 weeks, so maybe???

I end up with extra ultrasounds at the end anyway. I have OI, and there is a 50/50 chance that my kids will get it. So far DD is the only one that has it. But, they watch the baby's growth, and for signs of OI. DD actually broke her femur in utero... which I did too. But, her amnio was low because of it (she started holding her urine) and I ended up being induced at 36 weeks and 5 days.
