    Default Maybe joining you?

Hi! I would LOVE to join this board, but will not know for another week. I had an ultrasound on Monday which showed two gestational sacs, but only one beating heart. The doc said it is possible to have one develop a few days later, so he ordered another ultrasound for next week. The first sac is bigger than the second one, and I don't know if I should get my hopes up? Anyone had experience with this?

Welcome! I have one with a smaller sac but did have 2 beating hearts at the ultrasound. I have read about those that only have 1 and then one develops later. As far as the sac...my baby is measuring on target but the sac is several days smaller(10-13 days??). I was told it will either fix itself or it won't. I have weekly ultrasounds and hold my breath at each one! So far, so good, I will have another tomorrow so staying positive! Wishing you the best!!

My baby B's sack was much smaller than Baby A's sack until about 16 weeks. One was vertical and thin, the other horizontal and wide. I too was worried, but my doc said they don't really look at the sack - they look at the baby. Here is the pic from my 7w4d weeker:

As with mama, I had two heartbeats at the 6 weeks ultrasound. I have heard of others where Baby B implanted quite a few days later, so that you may not see it yet! Good luck!!!! STICKY VIBES coming your way!

I had an u/s in the ER due to heavy bleeding at about 5wks (I panicked after two prior losses). The er doc with the bedside manner of a potato asked me in one sentence if twins ran in the family and after barely pausing for me to answer said, "well, it looks like you lost one." I had thought I had seen two sacs on the u/s, but you know how the tech can tell you very little. Anyhow, one sac was nice and round, and the other was oval and flattened, which I had previously read can mean you are going to miscarry. Obviously the doc was wrong, I had two just a few weeks later.

KUP! Hopefully you will see two beating hearts next week!

Both sacs were the same size but I was almost 10 weeks when I found out. Welcome and congrats.

Thanks, ladies, for your encouragement! I had another ultrasound on Monday, and the two sacs still looked the same, but there was still no baby in the first sac. I will have one more ultrasound in the next few weeks, but my hopes are not too high.
Rachel, did you have anymore ultrasounds where they couldn't see the second baby, or did they have you wait two weeks for the next ultrasound?

Ruth, I had that 5wk u/s in the ER, and then just waited for my first ob appt at 8wks. There was no mistaking it then, thankfully. I was somewhat worried in the mean time, but my hcg numbers were awesome, so that helped.

    KUP!
