    Default NICU question

How can you tell if a hospital has a Level III NICU? The hospital I'm supposed to birth at has A NICU, and the site says it's pretty advanced, but I've been reading about checking on what level it is, and short of asking my dr at the next app, I'm not sure if I can tell.

And if I'm just being weird, lmk.

I have only heard them listed as level I, II, and III with lettered sub-levels (IIIA, IIIB, IIIC). The hospitals here all have the NICU level noted prominently on their websites. Maybe if you just google the name of the hospital and NICU you'll be able to spot that info. I'll be going to a hospital with a level IIIC NICU if they arrive before 36 weeks. If it's after that, I'll head to a different hospital with a level IIIA NICU.

Did you say you were delivering at IMC? My friend used to be a nurse in the well baby nursery. I cannot say for sure that their nursery is a Level III, but I do know it is has a very good NICU there. St. Mark's also has a good NICU. I think the few that don't around here are Pioneer, Riverton, you know, the smaller hospitals.

Yes, most hospitals display it on their website somewhere. Good luck finding that info. You may just have to ask. Your midwife or MFM won't care if you ask. It just shows that you are educating yourself. That is what they want.

We've got two groups of hospitals in the valley... the OTHER group has it listed on their websites, but IHC is a pain in the rear and doesn't list it on any of them. I know PCMC HAS to have a Level III, but nothing is listed there at all. Maddening.

Though I mentioned it to my mom and she said that when IMC was built that they made it a trauma center for this end of the valley and it was supposed to be the "best" and "maxed out" on about everything, which would be awesome. So I guess I'll ask when I go in for my appointment. Two weeks left!!
