I started packing mine tonight. I figure that once I start having NST testing which will be next Tuesday I want to have my bag ready to go just in case!

I think any time after 28 weeks (just my opinion).

I just gave birth 3 weeks ago and I can tell you I used almost nothing I packed. The only stuff I used was - one outfit for each of the boys, my shower stuff, one outfit for me, my camera, and my computer. I had a rough recovery though and spent most of it laying in bed hooked up to iv's.

I finished packing my bag the day before I gave birth. I am kind of a procrastinator though. Wink

This is a good question. Never packed a bag with DS1 cause I was having a home birth & this literally slipped my mind. MW's were not too thrilled when I had to be transferred due to PPH & I had nothing ready. So this time I'd like to be prepared if only to avoid having to use the random things DH threw in a bag for me...a nice tank top with lace, a pair of nice comfy pants but were pale, pale pink (threw them away), no socks (in the middle of a blizzard), no lotion (skin was so dry). He tried his very best.

I'm thinking I'll get this done before 30 weeks.

If 28 weeks is a good time, I am WAY behind! I'd better get on that. My question is, how many diapers should a person pack? Is it easier to just take a pack.

In the states they provide the diapers. The only things that I will take for the girls will be the coming home outfits, some nail clippers and mittens so they dont scratch their faces.

In the states they do give us diapers but I can tell you as far as useage goes, my twins need their diaper changed at least every time they eat which is every 3 hours. That is a minimum of 16 diapers per day. With accidents and the like, I would assume to take at least 20 diapers per day.

In most hospitals here you have to provide everything...even pads and a sleeper for when they are first born. We get free health but nothing else is free!

This is a good questions...one I keep asking. I'm scared of wasting my money on permies diapers...although I guess they can be returned.

Regular newborn size diapers would be a good compromise between premie and size 1. If you are worried about size 1...they won't be in those for a while...size one are usually for 8-14 lbs. Really it is kind of hard to judge until they are here.

Since so much of what I needed in the bag was every day stuff ipacked what I could then made a list of the last minute things to add. Worked great. Once we were told to head to hospital DH hopped in shower and I ran through the list. I stayed in a hosp gown the whole time, so much easier. As for babies we pretty much knew they would be in nicu so didn't bring anything at first.

Krista that's too bad about providing everything. When we got discharged Sunday they filled a bag of stuff to give us. Diapers wipes bottles formula - basically all the babies had used in the hospital. So very nice for getting us started.

As to diapers, buy newborns. I went searching and searching a few stores for preemie, and comparing prices and such. I bought Huggies Preemies, could not find any other brand, and they were the exact same size as Pamper's Newborn, and more expensive as well. But you definitely need newborns. My boys came at 36wks, 5lbs 6oz each, and they wore those newborns for at least 2 months.

All my diapers were newborns. However, my boys were big they were both over 7 lbs when born at 36 weeks.

I had bought enough newborn diapers to last 1 month (approx 500 diapers). I am glad I didn't buy too many more because they babies are over 8lbs now and the biggest one probably should move on up to size 1's but I want to make sure to use all the NB size diapers first.

Yeap, the average set of twins goes through 1,000 diapers the first 2 months of life.

and I can tell you, it is no joke. My twins are bottle fed (which are supposed to go less often than breastfed babies) go through at least 16 diapers a day. Assuming 30 days in a month, that is at least 480 diapers minimum.

We might have to do cloth just b/c I cannot fathom that much money being used to catch poop. I'm literally imagining wiping tiny cute baby bums with wads of $20's. Eeeppp!!!

I like amazon.com.

I do the amazon mom thing and the amazon suscribe and save option and you can save about 30% on pampers swaddlers.

It is expensive. I spent $90 for the first months supply of diapers. Here is a link to what I bought. I bought two of them:

Not on the hospital bag subject but on the diaper one: we did go through thousands of diapers in the first months and I wish I'd started to cycle in a few cloth diapers earlier. I have saved SO much money since I started, but I didn't really get into it until my babies were 9 months old. Just something to think about maybe. It's a bit more work but the soiled ones are still easy to clean when they're tiny (basically just throw them in the wash, though I prefered to rinse them first), and even if you buy 6 CDs, use just two per day and do laundry every other day, you save 60 diapers every month. I spent maybe $80 on eB*y and got enough second-hand diapers for both my kids if I do laundry every 3 days. I still "cheat" and use disposables at night and sometimes for outings.

I used diapers.com because they had 30% off for every order for 3mo, once that expired we have gone back to Sam's club. They are a tiny bit cheaper there. Look for online codes before ordering at diapers.com, I sometimes searched for 20-30minutes, but if it saved more than $5, it was worth it. The amazon mom thing is good too, still need to sign up for that. Smile

I had contemplated cloth, but once I found out it was two, I changed my mind. I am not great at housework and laundry as is, taking care of even more laundry just would not work for me and our family.
