ABC book - waaaaaay pic heavy!

I've been meaning to post pics of an ABC book that I made for DS for Christmas. It's pretty simple, but it had to be since I started it (along with a quilt for my DD) only eight days before Christmas (what was I thinking?!?!?!?! On top of finishing Christmas shopping, visiting my mom in the hospital, cooking, baking, cleaning, and, oh yeah...taking care of my kids...am I nuts? LOL). So, yeah. Very, very basic, but here it is. TFL!

That is really fantastic! The pictures of Evan doing all the things, or with the alphabet objects is my favorite thing. And really, sometimes simple is better...esp. in this case!!

First- Katie, I didn't realize you were a scrapper. Feb '08 just abounds here. LOL

Secondly... wow. That is really neat. REALLY neat. So much so that I want to go take a bunch of pictures of my kids now and make them one.

I too want to do one of these. Can I ask some questions? Did you have the pics for this handy or did you take them and print them especially for this? Did you use a cricut for all those letters? What did you use to glue all that stuff down? What size book is this? Sorry for all the questions...I just really want to make one for my two. TIA

WOW!!!!!!!!! No offense to others who have posted alphabet books in the past, but this is by far my favorite!!!! I really love how you kept it simple and how the things you used for the letters are really obvious in the pictures. That book really is amazing!

Thank you so much for all of the comments, ladies! I don't know why I am so shy about posting my stuff here...you all are always so nice! Smile

I had most of the pics already. What I did was start with a list of the alphabet, and I tried to come up with ideas for each letter. When I picked the object for each letter/picture, I tried to use things that were special for him when possible (like aquarium, golf, and fishing are some of his favorite things in the world!). Then I matched those up with pictures I already had. I really wanted him to be in all of the pictures, so that left a couple of letters that I couldn't find existing pictures for. So the pictures for ice cream, Nemo, x-ray fish (thank goodness for our ABC animal set! LOL), and zebra were staged. Smile

I used a 6x6 album, which worked out well using 4x6 pictures and not having time to use embellishments. If you are going to go more decorative, I'd use a bigger album.

I did use a Cricut for the letters, and I used a fine tip glue pen from Creative Memories to glue them down. What a PITA! I tried to use a Xyron machine that DH had gotten me for Christmas last year, and I still haven't figured out how to use, but that didn't work so hot. I think the letters were too small for the machine I was using. Maybe somebody else has a suggestion for a better way to do that! There's got to be a better way!!

I love it!!! I made one for Cadence and I think it's such a great way to bring meaning to the alphabet while also preserving memories. Great job!

That is really great! I love how it all ties together with the way you did the Letter on each page (with the diamond behind it).

Uh oh. I just got an idea. A wonderful, awful, going to cost my husband money idea. Now, if I made a book like this and LAMINATED the pages (because my kids can and do take the pages out of a scrapbook- they've done it before).... not only could I give my kids a really cool book (even my "in the chewing stage" almost 1 year old), but I'd finally have a reason to justify buying one of those big Xyron machines that laminates, makes stickers and magnets.

I think it came out perfect!

I love the pictures that go with each letter. And tying all the letters together with the same simple style is really great!

TFS!
