12/27/10 UPDATED FURTHER DOWN IN THE REPLIES!!
I am in shock still from this...we are only telling a handful of people close to us....but I had to share with you. When I was a sophomore in high school my Dad moved us for a job change. A neighbor who had four children in elementary offered for me to live with her til school got out for the year. She was also the girlfriend of the father of a good friend of mine. We have been in touch over FB for the last several years now. I got a private message from her yesterday telling me about a co-worker of hers whose wife is pregnant. They realized they can not afford another child, and since they are in their mid forties they aren't really wanting to start over with a baby. She wanted to know if I knew anyone that would want to adopt their child. I jumped right on and replied that we would! We are to the point that we realize the likelihood I am going to get pregnant again isn't very good. And my periods are so hard on me. She said all we have to do is get a lawyer to do the paperwork. The couple wants a closed adoption, but will allow us access to any and all medical information. Based on the ultrasound the Dr. says it is a boy. They are scheduled for a c-section at the beginning of February. I already contacted a local lawyer and she is going to handle it for us. The baby is a state away so we will have to travel a few hours to get him when he his born. We are just waiting to hear from a Minister that is handling things for the couple. We have been having the church elders pray for God to bless us with another child...in those words. We haven't prayed for me to get pregnant...just for God to bless us with another child. So this feels like him answering our prayers!

Wow!! That is amazing! I hope everything works out. I am looking forward to hearing about him!
I have a little more info. I haven't been able to talk directly to the minister (Kathy) that is handling things yet...she works a full time job and ministers both and she works retail so she is super busy right now! But my friend (Brenda) called me tonight to reassure me. She even gave me Kathy's number. She said that Kathy already has a file made up with all the medical records of the pregnancy-complete with the ultrasound pics! She also has medical records of the parents and siblings (two older brothers). She said the parents don't even know it's a boy. They decided not knowing was better. They also don't plan to see or hold the baby when it's born. They want us there when the baby is born. Brenda told me where she is pretty sure they are having the baby and it is a little less than a 5 hour drive away from us! The baby is scheduled to be born February 6th. She originally said c-section but tonight she said induced...I didn't think to have her clarify which. But I will clarify with Kathy. The mother is including a letter to the baby that we can choose or not choose to give to him when he is old enough. We definitely will. We have always been okay with an open adoption when we talked about adoption. But the family wants a closed one. I am still scared of something changing...so we aren't telling too many people yet.
