My poor Damien fell at my mil's house down a flight of 13 stairs! I was there and he normally goes up and down with no problem. He has done it about 100 times but yesterday he lost his balance. I took him to the ER and where they did a ct scan an xray. Thank god the ct was okay cause he hit his head hard but the x ray showed that he fractured his leg in 2 spots This was so hard because since I am pregnant they would not let me go in with him. He did have my mil but he cried saying mama mama mama and I had to leave him which left me in the hallway crying my eyes out. We were both better once it was over with. He is in a splint right not from his hip to his foot and by monday they will put on a cast that will stay on for 6 to 8 weeks! The bad thing is he can't walk so I have been holding him ever since.
I am so glad that yesterday I did a top to bottom cleaning of the house before this happened. I was sick for so long and just started feeling better so I did bathrooms all the kids rooms and even the basement. So nice to have the house spotless since I won't be doing anything anytime soon. I do have to send dh grocery shopping which is something I ALWAYS do so wish me luck on having him go cause he has to do my big shopping trip as well as buy Damien a bunch of new sweat pants since he can't wear jeans or sleepers. I hope the cast will not be from the hip down but I think it is going to be.
I also was just going to try to stop nursing him since he is 21 months but this shot that plan right out the window. He saw the splint this morning and told me off! My poor guy I just hope he gets used to it. Have any of you had a child this young in a cast where they could not walk? If so any idea's on entertaining him for 2 months???
I THOUGHT I WOULD UPDATE QUICK WHILE DAMIEN IS IN HIS HIGHCHAIR EATING. YESTERDAY WAS SO HARD! BECAUSE HE IS ONLY IN A TEMP SPLINT RIGHT NOW THEY DON'T WANT ME TO EVEN TRY TO LET HIM CRAWL. HE IS IN PAIN SO HE ONLY WANTS ME AND WON'T EVEN GO BY DH. I HELD HIM ALL YESTERDAY AND MADE IT TILL ABOUT 2 WHEN I BROKE DOWN. MY NECK AND BACK WERE SO SORE. IF HE JUST SAT ON ME IT WOULD BE OKAY BUT HE KEEPS TRYING TO GET DOWN SO I HAVE TO STRUGGLE WITH HIM. RIGHT AS I BUSTED OUT CRYING MY MOM CALLED WHO LIVES 45 MINUTES AWAY AND SAID SHE WAS ON HER WAY. HE STILL CRIED TO STAY BY ME WHEN SHE GOT THERE AND I SAID MOM NO JUST GIVE HIM HERE BUT SHE SAID HE WOULD BE FINE AND TOLD ME TO GO PEE LOL! SHE KEPT HIS ATTENTION BY WALKING HIM AROUND THE WHOLE HOUSE EVEN OUTSIDE ALL WRAPED IN A BLANKET. HE LASTED ABOUT A 1/2 HOUR WHICH WAS GOOD FOR ME. MY MOM HAD TO LEAVE AND HE SAT PRETTY GOOD FOR THE REST OF THE NIGHT BUT HE IS HAVING A HARD TIME SLEEPING SO I AM A VERY TIRED MOMMY. WE GO IN TODAY TO GET HIS CAST ON AND I HOPE IT IS SOMETHING HE CAN MOVE AROUND IN.
THANKS FOR ALL THE IDEA'S EVERYONE. BAD THING IS HE DOES NOT ATCH TV. I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH HIM WATCHING SHOW AFTER SHOW BUT HE NEVER USED TO SO HE IS NOT REALLY INTERESTED. I WISH HE WOULD! I AM GOING TO GET SOME NEW TOYS WHILE OUT TODAY SINCE WE HAVE TO GO TO THE STORE TO BUY SOMETHING HE CAN WEAR. I WILL POST PICS ONCE HE GETS HIS REAL CAST. YOU KNOW I HAVE TO SCRAP IT
Bless his little heart! I guess if there is anything to be thankful for thank goodness he didn't suffer any head trama.
What a rough day you had. I've had 1st graders in cast but no experience with one that little. Do you have a rolling chair you can "spin" him around the house in? That might save your back and neck some pain from carrying him everywhere. As far as stuff to do: blocks, coloring, puzzles? It's going to be a long time for him.
I'll be praying for you guys and hoping that things will go as smooth as possible.
Awww. I'm so sorry! I don't have any suggestions, but I hope he heals quickly.
Sorry to hear he took a spill.

sorry to hear. i broke my leg at age 10 spiral fracture and yes it meant cast up to hip.... they usually cut it down after a couple months and then off to an air cast. so its going to be a long progression.
tips to keep him occupied...setup a fun little bed on the couch, with his fave blankies, pillows etc. if he's into cars or another movie get him a blanket like that. coloring books, movies etc. anything he can do while staying stationary. crafts.....play dough if he wont eat it.... BOOKS!!! anything like that
hope my suggestions help. sorry to hear. kup
Oh! Poor baby and poor momma!!! How scary!!! Hope he heals fast!!!

oh, poor Damien!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am feeling for you both. I'm glad his head is okay, but two months in a cast is rough!
Jack STILL can't go down the stairs yet. he fell all of the way down the stairs at Christmas, and after reading your post, I'm so grateful nothing happened to him.
