Here are the cards I made at the crop last night. I'm bummed though because I just realized I haven't put the finishing touches on them yet. So here are the non-stickled versions.
Bridal Shower cards (they say "we love because He first loved us" inside)
Simple I know, but we give a card to every couple that has a shower at our church and there are a TON of weddings and showers this summer.
Father's Day card for my hubby from me
Father's Day card for my Dad from me
Birthday card for my brother (funny that I made his and his birthday is in July and not my mom's and her birthday is next week)
It says "How many fingers are you?" inside
Okay, and now for a card with a story. My dad is a deputy sheriff. He loved his job.... until the current sheriff got in office. First term, dad put up with it.... second term, he really just started hating working for the county. He got transferred against his will (and for no reason other then this is what the stupid sheriff likes to do) off the highway (which was his favorite) and put in the jail as a pod guard. June 5th (the day after his birthday) he became eligible to retire with a full pension. So before that, he started taking a LOT of time off using the years and years and years of sick leave he has built up. He legitimately did this by FINALLY admit he has depression, and he got the diagnosis so that he could be diagnosed as severe depression (which he really is) and put on work leave. Not anything my dad has EVER stood for job wise though. Anyways, so he was looking forward to retirement, especially when he found a new job that was perfect for him. (Mom estimated that he needed to bring home $1000 a month for 2 years before he could "fully" retire... which is still awesome as he's only 53). Anyways, he got hired to be a cop in another town that's forming their own department. So he'll be promoted to lieutenant and he'll be one of 2 people building this department and training people. He'll only have to work on the weekends and he'll be bringing in per hour about what he is now so he'll be bringing home $2000 a month for only 8 days work. That was supposed to start June 6th after he retired June 5th... but it's on hold because 3 weeks ago he tore a tendon in his right arm trying to throw a dead rabbit over the fence. He's now had surgery and is still on disability from his deputy job (because he can't hold a gun with a torn bicep and this will pay his work leave still as he still has the sick time). As soon as he recovers, he's officially retiring, but for all intents and purposes, he's retired. So you'd think he'd be in a better mood about it....
When I saw these stamps I just had to make a card to poke fun at his "owly" mood. He'll laugh... and if not... mom sure will.
Inside it says "Retirement is when you get to do nothing all day and then take a nap to recover from it". Underneath it I wrote "So I guess that means you're retired already. Congrats!" Oh and the stamp is made to smear like that... I stamped it 4 times before I figured that out. LOL
Thanks for looking.
LOL... Mish my DH was just saying the other day that he hoped the baby never grows up saying "she's this many" b/c that drives him batty! I chuckled when I read the card.
I hope your dad recovers quickly. Good for him for retiring. Its a shame that someone put in that many years of service and someone comes in and leaves a bad taste in his mouth. I hope he's feeling better soon.
Kelly- That's exactly why we were so happy when this cop job came along. He gets to do the stuff he loves without the bureaucracy of the sheriff.
My brother and I don't really talk in terms like "how many fingers".... but we do purposely try to annoy each other, so I figured using a little kid statement would work great. It was that or give him a Kwanzaa card... but I've done that recently, so it wouldn't be as fresh. LOL
I'm glad everyone has liked the story... It certainly cracks me up. Who rips a tendon throwing a dead rabbit over a fence?
Oh Michelle that cards are great. Love the story about your dad...here's the wierd part of the birthday buddy....My dad actually "resigned" from his job by force of hand on June 5th. Your dad tore a tendon throwing a rabbit over the fence.....I tore the cartildge in my knee tripping over a rug... just gave me a chuckle. Glad your dad found a job he likes.

Those cards are all lovely! I like the story too, it made me laugh about the rabbit. I did my shoulder in once by snapping a carrot in half.

I LOVE your cards! My fave is the first one ...and that's such a funny cheer up stamp lol!
I have another "life's little ironies" to add quickly....my 8 year old cousin years ago was helping his dad remodel....fell through a floorboard upstairs and landed on the rock hard kitchen floor downstairs...not a scratch on him...a week later he's building a lego house...it's only a few inches off the ground...stands on that (for some reason), falls off, and breaks his arm. lol
