Charys or any1 - Card-making question?

Charys, or anyone else can help me out!!

What size do you cut to make your greeting cards? Charys or anyone else w/ a Cricut - do you use the Cricut to cut your cards? If so, what size do you put it on? I know the Cricut only cuts up to a certain size.

Thanks for your help!

Aja, I use pre made cards and I cut the paper out the old fashioned way to fit.

An 8.5 by 11 sheet of paper, cut in the middle of the 8.5 side (so at 4.25), and then folded, will yield two "typical" homemade greeting cards.

So 4.25 by 5.5 is a pretty standard size.

I do the same thing, I cut an 8.5x11 sheet of paper. I do mine the opposite of Michelle though. I cut half way on the 11 side so it will end up being 5.5x8.5, then fold in half and you have 5.5x4.25!

That is exactly what I do too. ETA, doing cards with your Cricut would waste too much paper in my opinion. I've done a few with my Fabulous Finds cartridge, only because it can make some pretty cool shapes.

Shoot. Wait. They're right. Silly brain. CUT ON THE 11 SIDE!!!!

(I have made cards cutting on the 8.5.... kind of cool, but not the typical card.)

Man, I can't even claim preggo brain. LOL

I use a 12x12 and cut a 5 1/2 x 4 3/4 or something like that. I always have left over from the 12's but I often use it for other stuff. I like buying the 12's better.

ditto that. Wink

I did use the Cricut to scallop edges on a card once but it was a challenge.

I gave up on trying to make envelopes (or buying envelopes that fit that were cheap enough) so now I use 6x6inch (I think) cards that come 5 in a pack with envelopes for $1...they are from my local dollar store...only recently though did I notice they don't have the adhesive on the envelopes! Sorry to anyone who got them in past card swaps. I always put tape on cards I sent so I never noticed. lol

Karen, do you have Walmarts up there? I know that's probably a stupid question, but you can find a box of 100 regular card-sized envelopes for only like 2.88.

Office Depot (or any other office supply store) has invitation envelopes too. You get like 250-500 envelopes. Those are 4.5 by 5.75 inches for dimension.

whoa! Okay yours must be much cheaper than ours. Lol But also, being on the island instead of the mainland, our stores are a little smaller in scale and product options...Our Walmart only had wedding type envelopes...and they cost a small fortune. lol. I bought one pac of 50 "notes" and envelopes for $7 but was disappointed that what looked like cards were really only paper. lol

lol. Well it's huge for an "island" but yeah lol

here's a pic of north america...see BC on the west coast....we're on that island right close to washington there...it's a couple of different cities still but some of our stores are not as good as the ones I grew up with on the mainland lol
