Christmas Gift Ideas

Ok all of you crafty ladies.... I need some inspiration (ok, more like idea stealing)... what are you working on for homemade Christmas gifts? I'd like to think they are more cost effective, but sometimes I find that they end up costing more, but there's just something special about a handmade gift.

So... What are you making?! (please, don't be shy - I need some ideas!) haha.... Or, what have you made in the past? (could you share photos so we can all see?)

Haha! I was just coming here to post this same thread!!! Needless to say, I am very interested to see what everyone has to share! Biggrin I know Lauren made a ton of stuff last year. Should have bookmarked some of those ideas!

The one idea I have so far is that I am going to make my grandma a memory book. I saw this idea somewhere online, only it was in the form of a memory jar. Family members contributed little things they love/remember/cherish about the grandfather and they were printed on 365 slips of paper and placed in a decorated jar. I think I am going to turn mine into a book instead of the jar idea, but we shall see. I need to get an early start this year (not that November is early really...I guess I should already be started!) as our budget is REALLY limited this year so I am going to try to make most of our gifts.

I will also be making Lindsay an ABC book...I made one for Evan when he was this age so I will do a similar one for her.

That is all I have planned so far, but I will share more when I get myself together!

I steal ideas too....in fact, "my idea" is the etched glasses that Charys did last year. LOL...I figure we all live far enough apart it doesn't matter if we all give the same stuff. lol.
I haven't bought the supplies since we've just been paid but I will post pics as I go along Smile

I hope somebody will post a pic! Besides me!

I made this for my almost 4yo niece:

And this is for my 5yo nephew (obsessed w/cars Wink ):

This isn't done yet, but it's going to be a dress. I'm making two, one for my other niece (2 years) and the other for the little girl I watch (almost 1 year). I just need to sew the fabric onto the halter tops (which are knit) to make a dress. The other halter top is white, and the fabric is orange w/white flowers.

last year I made a TON...this year with being preggo and not having much time or energy to scrap let alone make stuff, I doubt I will do as many...if any.

I think for my grandma, though, I am doing an altered frame that says "Family" with a nice pic of her with my mom, my aunt and my uncle from her bday.

Last year I made my sister a recipe book and an ornament box. I made family name plaques for each season for my parents. I think that was it???

Here's my stuff from last year...

made several of these post it note holders (Acrylic frames - either magnetic or easel type)

Made the family name plaques for my parents for each season

Made these altered canvases for my friend

I cannot find a pic of the altered box I made for my sister for her own ornaments...or pics of her recipe book. I think I was trying to save room on my photobucket and my computer...

I ALWAYS make calendars for the family. I've been told I can't stop now. They are digitally printed so not as crafty as other gifts. I just finished sewing DH some pajama pants - very easy sewing project. I'll be sewing my nieces some dresses. I don't really scrap gifts (just digital) so hard to give you gals ideas.

I'm not sure if I'll do anything beyond the photography letter names I'm doing. I can't remember if I shared this here or not (I know I shared it on the photo board). But I'm making these for everyone in my family AND for teacher gifts. Smile I'm doing ours on canvas, but will probably do a matboard for everyone else.

I've made some changes since this version, but you get the concept

Our HS art students did this as a fundraiser--it was inexpensive and it looks really cool!

I made my dad an 8X8 paper album that goes from birth to halloween. I'm pretty sure he's gonna love it!

I'm scrapping a couple of 8x10 or 11x14 frames for grandma--gotta go buy them soon. I'll probably do halloween photos & christmas photos when they are done in a few weeks.

I haven't gotten to making calendars yet... Probably next year when we have a full year's worth of photos under our belts.

I started a picfolio album for my sis & got her some journaling/matting papers to make it super easy for her to actually print some pics and not use FB as her scrapbook!

YOu ladies have lots of great ideas!

here are some things I've done in the past

I made this for an elephant gift exchange at my work's Christmas party last year. They are etched glasses that read "weeble" and "wobble" - i thought it was funny.. i also included that blue mix.

Made these for the grandparents (but never gave it them!) LOL They are tiles with the kids pictures on them that were printed in tissue paper.

Made this for daycare providers last year (etched glass, with hot chocolate, peppermint stick, and a snowman soup poem) Hmm.. now that I think about it.. i've never seen her use it!! Grrrr....

Made these for the grandparents (the kids handprints turned into snowmen)

For the grandparents again (storyboards)

and

i stole this idea from Charys last year. Hot cocoa cups for the family. Brandon needs one this year, so I'll have to hop to it! Smile

thanks Carrie! the photo name project is actually one long picture. I'm having mine printed on canvas. but each letter is framed with the black outline, so to speak. Wink there are people who sell these online framed, and they're expensive. my neighbors all want these now, and I need to charge for them, as it's time intensive. not sure what to charge though ...

Thanks for coming back to explain. I can see why your neighbors want one, they are very cool.

I bought paint cans for like $2 on clearance and am going to put a DVD and some movie snacks (popcorn and some candies) in them for each of the families on Dh's side. I have been watching the $5 movie bin so each bucket should cost me less than $10!
I'm also making a bunch of cards for my Grandma.

I made throw pillows with all the grandkids pics on them. We had 9 grandkids at the time so I did square pics in rows of 3 like a grid. I have to find the pic.

I'm going to try to make necklaces with big washers. You take the washer and trace on the backside of the scrap paper. After it's cut out, you glue it to the washer. Using a round metal file, file the edges smooth and then top it with glossy glue that you can find at Michael's, ect under Ranger Rick. Then get coordinating leather string for the necklace, tying the washer to the string. A friend of mine showed me hers, so once I attempt it if anyone wants a pic, let me know. Super cheap, but oh so pretty!
