Cricut Cake Machine (OT)

Sorry for all the off topic threads, but I was checking out the Cricut site looking at the Once Upon a Princess cartridge someone posted and seeing what else was new...I saw a Cricut Cake cartridge only available with Cricut cake machine...so I looked at that.

A Cricut machine that is for decorating cakes! How awesome is that? I do cakes for my nephew and will for my son's birthdays. I prefer buttercream icing, so I have never worked with fondant, but if I had one of those I would definitely be willing to use fondant! At least I am assuming it cuts the shapes from fondant.

I saw it too, but I don't know if I could convince dh to spend $399 after I just got the expression. I did however find some forums talking about using the regular expression to cut fondant and gumpaste!

so I have my old personal cutter sitting around waiting to be sold, and I think I may try to use it this week to cut gumpaste or sugarveil! If it works it will be so great! I am using the cricut to cut out monkeys for ds's birthday invites and if it works I can use the same design for the cake!!!

this looks so cool! It's actually something I'd like to look into. One of these days it'd be great to have my own bakery/cafe, so this would be perfect. Can't wait to hear more about it when it comes out.

K, who wants to buy me one? Any volunteers? $400 is a bit out of my price range, but they look awesome! Hope they clear them out soon for a new color, haha!

I saw that the other day! I have also seen that someone has made a video on how to use the regular cricut to cut fondant, i think it's like $50 or something. If anyone tries this, please let me know!! (I do cakes on the side!!)

Ok, so I ordered some sugarveil last night!!! And it looks like I should be able to easily use it with my personal cutter. I'm taking it apart today to clean it all out and I'm going to try it out as soon as it gets here. If it works I will post a video Smile

I can't wait to find out if it works! My sister makes cakes and I am sure she would love something that could cut down on the time it takes her to decorate them.

I wonder what the copyright rules are going to be for this because it seems odd that you can only sell 10 ( I think that is what I read right?) cards made from one image off of a cricut cartridge. How is going to work with the cricut cake cartridge, not to mention those licensed ones like disney and nick. Just something I was thinking about, because most people will buy this so they can sell the cakes of course. I think the video I saw here showed zooballoo animals being used and that woman said she was a cake seller... so.. just wondering.

I can't believe they are going to have 4 other new machines and I read at least 100 new catridges this/next year.

I have never heard about the new machine for cake, but on the cricut message boards, some people have posted how to cut fondant/gumpaste with the cricut.

the only thing I heard on the cricut boards about this is that the 2 rubber pieces that go around the metal roller will dent the fondant or gum paste. some people mentioned cutting them off the middle of the roller bar. when looking at the new cricut cake machine, the roller bar is solid, rather than having the rubber rollers on it.
