Difficult album

I wanted to do this so badly but now that I've finally got the pictures I'm having a very hard time finding the right kind of paper and embellishments, so any help is gratefully appreciated.

TIA. Erin.

I think one of my hardest things is I've never tried to scrapbook an event I was at. As this is my grandparents wedding back in the 1940's I can't very well have been there.

I think softer colors would go well with these photos. Maybe scrap them on a black background/album? [Atleast see what they look like on black.] Those photos are beautiful! You are scrapbooking copies right? I'd probably scan them and only use copies, as not to ruin the originals if you accidently mess up one of them.

Oh yes, they are copies. The orignals are 8 X 10 and belong to my dad and his sister.

Good! I figured so!

Vellum would also be pretty with these.

How so? You mean colored paper with a vellum overlay?

yes, I think that would be pretty. Make it soft and you could bring in some colors.

I'll try it. I did lay them out in black. They look good in black, especially the out doors ones. Those were too gray.

When i did some photos from my grandparent's wedding ... I used black paper and then had some bright flower embellishments, in pinks, maroons, and greens. I think it helped to make something "pop" on the page a little bit. But, I also think the softer colors and vellum would like really nice, too.

I am AWFUL with matching colors I think, but you've gotten great advice. Totally want to see the finished product! Smile

I'm the same - horrible at matching colors. But heritage albums always look good with a black or white background with gold/silver/dark red (maroon?) accents.... at least, those are the types I always think look good when I see heritage pages.

What size are the copies?? I have this album (well it's a kit) and honestly I think it would be perfect. I haven't looked at it for a while but I could go dig it out and take pics of it and what it comes with. The album itself is black velvet. I think it is an 8 by 8 album. That is why I asked what size the pics are you are scrapping. I bought it with intentions of doing my sis a wedding book with it, but her wedding pics (we just used an old advantix camera) didn't turn out. Sad

The pix are 5 x 7. I was thinking of doing them on an 8 x 11 album. I found a heritage kit at Target months ago that I bought and it's 12 x 12 but I may cut those pages down. They have a lot of "old wallpaper" type of paper. I don't know if that makes any sense but the paper basically looks like old wallpaper from the turn of the century to the early 50's.

What color was your grandpa's tie? Maybe match that color family with black. I think black background is definitely the way to go. Charys idea to add vellum layered color to the layout is good too.

That heritage album sounds great. It keeps it vintage and would keep with the age of the photos. BTW, your grandmother is beautiful.

I don't know what color his tie was or my great aunts dress or anything. My grandmother has alzheimers and she can't remember it. She just remembers him being there and being in love.

And if you think my grandma was pretty wait till you see a good pic of my grandpa. People used to mistake him for Clark Gable and ask him for his autograph.

I found the kit and it is an 8 by 8 Black Faux suede album. It has over 300 pieces total in the kit. And the kit is wedding specific. Everything in it is black and white. It comes with the album, 12 patterned papers (8.25 by 8.25), 6 solid cardstock (8.25 by 8.25), 100 photo corners, 20ft of fiber and ribbon (combined there is 20 ft), 12 round nails, 12 square nails, 10 themed tags, 13 quote stickers, 140 alpha letter stickers, and an idea card. I am guessing since you are using 5 by 7 pictures you probably aren't interested in it. But if you are let me know...or if anyone else is let me know. I can take pics of the stuff. I would be willing to let it go cheap. I honestly don't even remember what I paid for it. But it is a Chatter Box brand kit.

What about asking if anyone knows the colors she has in the wedding. Although they are sepia pics I am sure she did have a color if she a wedding party at the wedding.

The pictures are actually completely B&W. I've no idea why my camera turned them to sepia, but as I said before my grandmother has alzheimers and can't remember anything. My grandfather died when I was six.

Okay first off those pictures are just AMAZING. I love old pictures like that. Second with the coloring on those pictures you could use almost any other colors with it. In situations like this I usually take my pictures with me to the scrap store and sort of hold them up to paper to see what looks good and what does not.

Good luck with it.
