External hard drives?

I really need to get a new external drive. I had a MyBook, but it quit working before I even had it a year. It was one we used as a network, and kept plugged in. This time I want to go with a large external that I can plug into the USB, and then unplug it and keep it in the firesafe.

I have heard a lot of people say they have the Seagate FreeAgent Walmart.com: Seagate FreeAgent GO Portable Hard Drive, 500GB 5400RPM: Computers

And my cousin has a Toshiba:
Walmart.com: Toshiba 500GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive: Computers

I wonder if anyone has any experience with either, or what you would recommend? It is going to be for backing up all of my photos.

Uber sized hard drive!

I don't know anything about the ones you are looking at. Mine is a 250 gb Verbatim Smart Drive. Very easy interface. I would check out the reviews for how easy they are to use for total backups and for ease of finding files. Good luck!

I don't know either of those, either ... we have a WD Passport (160GB) and a 1TB My book ..... I use both as regular hard drives, not backup drives.

Mine is a western digital (can't recall how big right now)....... we use ours as storage for all of ds' photos and put it in the firesafe. We're planning on getting another one since although we haven't filled this one up yet, we have another baby on the way and it's always good to have one extra. So we've been keeping our eye out for good deals. We got ours on black friday from best buy.

We have a Seagate Freeagent one. I honestly don't know anything about it. Dh is a computer guy so he takes care of all of that. I do know that we use it as a back-up. It is supposed to back everything up on a schedule so that if something happens to the computer we don't lose everything.

We have 2 western digital. I use one for backup and one as a drive for scrapbooking. I love it, so easy to use. The only frustration I have is that when we upgraded our computer to Vista, it now wants me to pay for a subscription to be able to use their backup program, I'm not sure what that is about, so now I just backup manually.
