Default First digi attempt Updated 2nd attempt

I'm not too pleased with this. I attempted it digital because I was going for a progression I could frame and it seemed easier and cheaper than paying 30 bucks for a frame 20 for a print and 15 for a mat. But I can't seem to get it to look like it was matted. Instead the photos look like they are floating on top of the background. I'm sure it's the program/elements I'm using. This was done in Elements 5.0 with no added software. I tried a few free elements I downloaded today but it seemed to make it look more scrap bookie instead of like something you would hang on a wall.

I saved it pretty large so I'll just link to deviantart instead.

Ok I worked on it some more today and I think this is much closer to the matted look. I couldn't get a good frame around the text but I think this works. Here's the second take...

I think it is from the shadowing that the squares are floating rather than indented. The shadowing is outside the squares instead of inside, does that make sense? I don't know photoshop though.

Yeah I can't seem to figure out how to change that. I'd like to get a shadow on the frames as well so it looks double matted but have yet to figure it out.

I meant to say I want a frame around the TEXT not around the frame...that sounds silly LOL

I agree, it's adorable! I don't know elements too well, I use photoshop, but I know in PS, you can add layers under text (like a frame or a custom shape) And if you want to change your shadows, you should be able to go to layer properties and change the direction/size/opacity of your shadows there. HTH!

that looks great!!! if you put the shadow all around it would look like a frame... is it just a drop shadow now (on two sides?!)....

    great job!
