Fridays - QOTD?

Do you think of yourself as having an accent?

I never thought of myself as having an accent but the other day I was on the phone with someone from St. Louis and she kept telling me to slow down because she couldn't understand my accent. I think of Charys as having an accent, cause I've heard her voice. I think of my grandparents having the english accent and my Uncle Bill having the thick welsh accent but I never thought of myself as having one until she said that.

I get "out of towners" at my table and bar and get told that I have an accent. They usually ask where from up north I am from but I was raised here in the good 'ol south. It's quite interesting.

Nope ... I don't think I do, but I know most of you certainly have accents, and would think I have a funny accent (Canadian, eh?). ROFL

I have a mishmash of accents because I've lived in places with drastically different accents.

Rochester, NY (add an extra s to anyway, anywhere, etc and it's a harsh a in Rah-chester and other words)
then we lived in Kentucky (where I picked up a prolific use of y'all and a few other slang words)
my DH is from northeastern PA which has it's own dialect (a cup-a two tree = a couple two three) and I've picked up a little from him
and now we live in northcentral PA (where it's not such a drastic accent, but definitely a strange pacing of how you say words)

I'm weird! LOL

Same here;) We sound a little like U-ppers here. Add to that the fact that we are in a very German community with lots of German blood and I guess you could say we have an accent.

I don't think...I have such a mish-mash of influences. My dad grew up in pittsburgh, but his family was originally from Philly (he lived in Pittsburgh since he was about 3). My mom grew up in northern new jersey, and her accent has faded a lot compared to my aunt and grandma. I grew up in Northern VA near DC but now live in Pittsburgh. Most of the time I have quite a neutral accent. Unfortunately, sometimes a little Pittsburgh creeps in, and it scares the jeepers out of me!

hahaha, WAIT, I have an accent?? oh dear.

Yes, I've been told so before, so I suppose I've got one. Sad that I've only been in TX 8 years....it rubs off on ya QUICK! You should hear DH.:eek:!! My 2-year old has WAY more of an accent than me already. Poor dear.

Yes I do. Although I think it's more the words I say and how I say them then an actual accent (if that makes any sense). Last summer when we went to Arkansas for a friends wedding we stopped at a liquor store and I don't remember what I said but the lady goes "Your from Iowa aren't you?" Apparently her in laws in Iowa talk the same way. Blum 3

I remembered it: I said "I suppose" but it sounds more like "I s'pose"

I do this quite a bit too so I adapt well to however people talk around me. I grew up in Australia but most people can't tell because I lost the accent so quickly. Its both good and bad because I don't stick out but at the same time an accent can be special.

i'm glad i'm not the only one! lol I can't help it, and i feel bad because i donæt want them to think i am making fun of them. And it's not like i hang out with people with accents, but if i call a call center....i start to talk like them LOL it's horrible! ROFL

I never thought I did, but when I went to Latvia. The other americans (2 CA, 1 IA, 1 NY, 1 IL, and 1 VA) said I did. Well we all did.

I notice especially with Milk, button and good old bubbler:)

I pick up on accents so quickly. I remember talking with my friend Trudy in college and she was from Brazil. We were talking to a blind guy in our class who we were helping by recording the lectures for him since he couldn't take notes very easily and he asked me if I was from Brazil as well. I hadn't even realized I had picked up her accent.

Nope, being upper midwestern, I have that Chicago non-accent. However, I get picked on ALL THE TIME because of my Wisconsinisms- bubbler, soda and gym shoes.
