I read on one of the threads about your "grammar nerd" tendencies ...
I don't mind it so much on Scrapbooking, on forums, etc as it's a bit more informal, but it drives me ABSOLUTELY NUTS to see words spelled wrong on official things (signs, in the newspaper, etc). We went to Boston Pizza last week and they had a sign that said "Your among friends" ... I seriously wanted to tell someone their sign was wrong. The same day, my mil showed me some baby announcements her studio did, and it said "Parent's: Cassie & Stuart" ... um, hello ... no apostrophe. I told her (nicely! It IS her business, I thought she should know there was a mistake) and she didn't think it made that much of a difference. DH thinks I'm crazy because I pick these things out all the time (like the sign at the restaurant). My grammar is nowhere near perfect, I just for some reason notice it everywhere.
You too? Please tell me I'm not alone! LOL
lol i'm not gwen, but i do this as well. And if that is her business she should care...people are going to stop going because she can't spell! I even grammar check BOOKS lol I'm like, isn't there an editor that gets paid for doing this? and WHY didn't they do thier job!
Same here! Like you said, Trina, it doesn't bother me so much on here; I make my fair share of mistakes when I get typing and posting too fast, and I understand that everyone is not a grammar nerd. But on something "official" it drives me nuts, too! The apostrophes especially bug me! LOL
I'm so glad I'm not the only one. yeah, I notice things like that ALL OF THE TIME. makes me crazy when I see misuse of apostrophes.
funny story - back when I was in college, I was the corps commander for Air Force ROTC. if a cadet missed PT or drill or another function, they had to write an excuse letter, formally typed and it had to follow a specific format (it was a long standing rule, not something I came up with). so many times the word "it's" was improperly used. on day I went into the cadet lounge and wrote the rules for using "its" and "it's" on the white board, and wrote "do not erase" as I wanted everyone to see it. of course, someone thought they'd be funny and erase it. grrrrrrrrrrrr but seriously, we were all in college, they should all know how to properly use an apostrophe!!! (also had issues with "their" "they're" and "there").
i totally agree with you all.
The online chat room stuff doesn't really bug me, because I know that we all are typing really fast.
It's the formal things like business signs, books, cards etc. The things where you know someone is getting paid to make sure it looks right and they slacked.
The other day I was reading the most recent Nicholas Sparks book (The Lucky One) and noticed a few typos. I mean really, they have a team of people looking over a book. Why didn't they catch those?
I tend to always post corrections to spelling and grammar if I notice it on a layout. But I feel almost apologetic when I'm doing it.
I'm a grammar picker too!
