Has anyone done a family tree book?

I think I have bit off more than I can chew. I went to my moms and got all of our pics from when I was a kid and her family from the past. I decided to scan them just so I have a digi copy just in case KWIM!

Well, I decided to do 3 family tree books. One for myself, one for my mom and one for my grandma. Now that I decided to take on this task, I think I have more than I can do. So far I have about 7 generations of pics. Does anyone have any advice on how to weed through the pics and possible themes. I know I need to document the most important like births, marriages and deaths. Anything else???

How are you thinking of organizing it? A page per person or per family unit?

I've never done one. If I did, it would only be a couple generations, I'm amazed that you are taking on 7!

Wow that is a lot to handle. Good luck with that.

The most I have done was a book for my mom, Each of her 6 kids had a page, then each of those had a page for their family, and I included a few pages of misc pics of everyone, and I ended it with a group photo of all her kids together.
When I did each individual kids page, I made sure there was at least one photo of that kid with mom.

I think it will be a christmas gift for next christmas, not this year. That way I will have plenty of time to work on it. I also "stole" some family history info that my mom had written in books. I am scanning it now so I can get it returned before she notices it missing.

I think I am going to do a book for my grandma with a double page layout of each generation. Also I am going to scrap her wedding. I also thought about adding my moms birth and my brother and mine as well as my daughters. My mom is an only child.

For my mom's, I though about the same thing just more of me and my brother. Also adding in the past generations.

I just don't know. My mind is so bogged right now. I am just jotting down my ideas.

I am by no means an expert, but my cousin did one for my grandparents 50th anniversary and she did it chronologically, so she first did my grandparents, then each of their 5 kids, then the 5 kids together, then the 12 grandkids each had a page, then grandkids as families, so if daughter #2 has 2 kids, pages of them, then all grandkids together, she did a senior pics page and a weddings page (1 for kids and 1 for grandkids)
She also left pages for great grandkids.

I don't know if what I am telling you is confusing, if so just ask.

My mom and I made an album for my grandma's birthday the year before she died. Unfortunately, each of the 5 children was supposed to get us pictures of their families and it took her passing to get this finished. I am "trying" to keep it updated, for my record. (I'm being selfish, but if they want to make copies for themselves they can). I think the hardest part is gathering the pictures. I'll try to post tonight and let you know the order of our album. I know it's overwhemling, but it really is a great feeling to see them look at it.
