How do you find time to scrapbook?

Now that Tyler is getting older and growing out of naps, I'm not finding a lot of time to scrap. I work 40 hours a week, if I'm not there, I'm at home w/ family. I can't scrapbook at night b/c the lighting sucks and a lot of time DH wants to spend time w/ me. Understandable. So really, my time is dwindling. Those who have babies/kids......how do you do it?

Charys - Kayson is 6 months older than Tyler, how do you find the time?

Gwen - W/ 4 children/baby - how do you do it?

I just have this want to scrapbook and it's killing me not being able to do it.

I take time in the evenings to do it. I make sure to give DH a few evenings, but otherwise take a few for myself as well.

I get what I can done during naps, otherwise I try to do some in the evenings. DH teaches Taekwondo twice a week and I use that time to scrap, and on the evenings we are both home we usually take an hour or so after the kids go to bed to do our individual things before we spend time together.

But I totally understand about not being able to find time. I am just now getting to where I can scrap some again. For the last 6 months there was no way I was able to shuffle two kids, house, hubby and still have time to scrap. It's hard.

I forgot how hard it was to be a work out of the home mom. For so long I worked at home, and now that I am out of the home, I feel like I have zero time to do anything for myself. I understand the feeling. I went over to my sister's house and scrapped. Do you have any friends who have kids that Tyler could play with while you scrap? See, my sister loves to scrap, her DH was out of town, and Randall was at work, so Ruthie got some time with her cousin, while I got some time to scrap. Working makes it so much harder. I think you need time for yourself though. You deserve it.

That's a great question. I put my two littles to bed at 8 PM, so that me, DH, and my oldest always have some alone time. Then I try to take two nights a week that are for scrapbooking...Tuesday and Thursday. I try to start before 8, as DH knows these are nights I want to do this on, and he usually will entertain the kids so I can do this. There are times when things get in the way and then I miss my scrapping for that night. I am a scheduler though, so I have to schedule it in and have it as my routine or I'd never do it. I don't normally just start scrapping any ol time, I do it during it's scheduled time. But that's just me. Smile

Aja, I certainly understand your frustration. I work full time too.
Patrick is four months older than Tyler and down to one hour and a half nap each day, if that, so finding time to scrap is severely limited. My DH and I have an agreement that we can each do our own thing about a half hour after he goes to bed at 8:30 (which may soon be moved up, cause as naptime is cut down he gets crankier and crankier). So after that he generally takes up video games and I either go to bed, or I grab my scrapping tools. Yes the light is not always the best, but I do what I can until the weekend when he's napping and I can see better.

My real secret though is a crop. I am trying to do at least one a month, sometimes two or three. I just went to my first and I became addicted. Real time to just scrapbook, and nothing but scrapbook. It was awsome. Yes it does cost some money, the one I am going to on Saturday is $10 for six hours ( 6 p.m. to midnight in Danville if you're interested off Sycamore Valley Rd) So for sxi hours, I'm baby free, I've got my tools, I can use others tools, and I have a great time and get actual things accomplished.

My dh is on the road alot, so after Karl goes down at 7:30 or 8. It's just me, the cats and dog:) I don't scrap every night, but I try to take at least 10 minutes to maybe pull pictures for my next page.

I work full time too, so some nights I just want to go to bed!

When Quinn was that age I worked fulltime, I scrapped when she was around. Usually on the weekends. The monthly crop is a great idea.

I think what you need is to hire/invite over a young person (8-15) to babysit in your home while you are there. All they need to do is PLAY with your baby while you scrap. I didn't need to arrainge as I have my children HUGELY spaced out. (currently 18, 12, 7 and due when ever she wants to come out)

I do what I can during naps ... but it's rare the younger two have overlapping naps. If DH goes to bed early, I'll do it then too. Been trying to spend more time with him when the kids are in bed which has really cramped my scrapbooking (over the last two months).

I scrap during naps, and after she's gone to bed (and sometimes before she gets up!). If she's happy in her excersaucer I like to catch up online, but not always.

My scrapbooking desk is in K's room. So I keep my stuff out and work on things in little 15 minute intervals usually. It make take 4 times to complete a page, but I just work on it while K is busy doing other things. He has his own desk too, and a lot of times he'll color while I scrapbook. I've purposely put his crayons and markers up, so he can only use them while we "scrapbook" together, so it gives him something to look forward to. Smile Either that, or I scrap when he is in bed.

Charys, that is really cool. I like that he kind of does it with you sometimes.

Andrea still eats the crayons....

He has just recently stopped eating the crayons, so no more colorful diapers. Yahoo Ah, the little milestones. hahaha

I don't even have kids yet but I don't find time *ok mainly energy* to scrapbook at all. I can't even remember the last time. I'm hoping after the baby comes and I have a million new pictures I'll be at it again.

this is a big reason that i do digital. it is much, much faster IMO and you don't have to drag out a bunch of stuff, you can just open your page and do something really fast and then close it. anyway, i scrapbook at night after the baby goes to sleep for the night. i usually do it for about an hour maybe. it's really the only time i do anything for myself and it totally helps keep me sane.

What is that....time to scrapbook? Never heard of it...

Actually, the ONLY time I ever get anything done is if I go out to a crop or if I can get my hubby to take the kids for awhile. He tries to let me do this when he can, but both of our schedules can be nuts. He goes out twice a month with some friends and plays "dungeons and dragons" (yes...I have a gaming geek for a hubby) so he trys hard to make sure I get two nights a month for scrapping..mainly so he doesn't feel guilty! Erin, my stepsister and I just had our own little crop about 2 weeks ago at my house. We plan to do it again, she got 5 pages done, me, just 3, but it felt good to have all that time to scrapbook. Next time, DH better take Tyler OUT of the house, not just in the other room. LOL
