I got a Cricut!!!

My wonderful DH got me a cricut expressions for our 1st anniversary (which is actually Sunday)!! It came with the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge. Right now I am just playing and trying to learn how to use it.

What setting do you usually use for the pressure just to cut regular cardstock or PP? And what speed do you usually set it on?

And I think someone mentioned something you could put on the mats to make them last longer...what was the name of that and where do I get it?

welcome to the club! that is the best investment your hubby ever made!! i use the crap out of my lil create! ive always used the speed and pressure that it was already on when i opened the box, which would be up to the 3rd bar on the screen. and the glue is called zig 2-way glue(thank you Charys for this idea!!) and i got it at joanns!! i cant wait to see your work!

Yes, the fast setting is what I use 90% of the time. Especially on the more delicate cuts and/or papers. (which is 99% of what I do anyways). And the blade depth and pressure just depends on what you are cutting, the thickness and how sharp your blade is. It's trial-and-error at first, but you'll get the hang of it in no time. I have noticed that all three of the Cricuts I've used are a bit different, which makes no sense, but my first Cricut I kept at medium pressure all the time and my Create I keep at medium-high for most stuff. My friend's Expressions varies too. So just play with it and soon you'll have all the settings down for your machine and preferences. Smile
And yes again, the Zig 2-way glue is the best stuff! You'll not have to buy a mat for a loooooooooooooooong time!

CONGRATS!!!! you're going to have so much fun! I really can't wait to see what you create with it. The Plantin cart is one of my faves. I love love love the scallops you can cut with it. I really want that cart instead of always having to borrow my friends. Wink

Please explain what the zig-2way glue is....I'm already having issues with things not sticking to my mat.

Congrats on getting your cricut.
