I know we have discussed printing before.....

but, I just now decided I wanted to see what a few looked like. Where do I print them from and what kind of paper do I want? Also, do I have to save them as a "jpg" or can I keep it as a "png." Thanks ladies! What would I do without you!? Wink

I'm pretty sure that you have to flatten the image and make it a jpeg. I have printed from Mpix and LOVED it - it's expensive though. I know that there are other places to print from but I'm not sure of their names.

This is a question I too have. I am just starting up on making a page and wanted to print up. Also when I am making what size am I going with?

Size is usually 12x12 at 300dpi, though some are 8x12 (also 300dpi).

And to the OP, I haven't had any printed yet, either... but I think we need a sticky with good printing sales/promotions at certain sites. Because I will be printing some in a few months and won't want to ask the same question again. Lol

I have used Scrapbooksplease.com and been pretty happy (I actually just uploaded more pages last night!) I do 12X12 matte printing for $3.49 per page and I have been flattening the images to a jpg format.

I usually use Costco to print individual pages. I print my 12"x12" pages on 12"x17" photos and just trim the edges. My mom does 8"x8" when she prints (no need to resize 12"x12" layouts for this, just select the smaller print size and they are resized for you) she prints them on 8x10 and trims.

Lately I've been putting together albums though, like this one that I made for Caleb's first year. I made this at www.shutterfly.com
front cover

back cover

some inside pages

oh forgot to mention- yes, save your pages as a jpg file for printing. If you want to print your 12x12 or 8x8 pages using something like costco where they just have 12x17 and 8x10 theres something you can do to make sure they don't crop your page weirdly and you end up with huge parts cut off-

open your page in your program. Resize the canvas to 12x17 or 8x10 and fill the blank edges with a solid color like white. In photoshop just go to Image>Resize canvas and change the dimensions. There should be a drop down menu below where you can choose the extension color (white, black, gray or background color) Then re-save your page, upload to your printing service and it should work!

Also when printing, make sure you don't put anything on the 1/4" around the edge of your page, this area tends to get cut off. In hardbound books it doesn't always get cut off, but might sort of dissapear into the binding and be hard to read if you have text there.

I really LOVE the pages I have gotten back from Scrapbooks Please (www.scrapbooksplease.com). I have ordered the Premium Matte & the Premium Luster and I have to say that the Premium Luster is AWESOME! I love it. I think if I were you I would order from a few places and play around with what texture & feel you like. Im the kind of boring person where once I find something I like, I stay with it LOL and I really love Scrapbooks Please so I will probably stick with them even though it is $4.99 per page.
