An Intro and request for input (updated version added)

Hi, I'm Lauren, mum to two (Maddi who just turned 4 last week and Rhys who will be 2 in feb). I love photography but am new to the whole scrapbooking thing...well I did try to make an album for Maddi when she was born, I have a whole 4 pages completed Blush and now I don't have the time or the space for the mess, especially with Rhys about. I thought maybe digital might be the way to go for me. I want to try to make a mini album of the year's photos for the grandparents, (another good reason for digital since both myself and my husband have divorced parents so there are a lot of grandparents and it'll be easier to do it once and print it several times). I've read the sticky thread and visited a few of the websites linked (wow overwhelming, I think I could easily get addicted to this!) does anyone have any extra hints, tips, favourite websites for freebies or purchases? I'd love to hear them.

I have done what I think might be one page of the album and wanted to get some feedback please, anything I should change? add? I wanted to keep it fairly simple but I am totally open to suggestions and criticism.

Thanks, hope no-one minds if I jump on in here, I've been lurking for awhile

I thought maybe it needed some more of that pink in the colour photo to balance it out a bit so added some colour, what do you think?

 Hello Lauren! Your children are beautiful as is your photography. I am so envious of you who can photograph so well. Smile Glad you can join us. I am a paper scrapper so I've no digital tips to share, but I will tell you that when I first started scrapping I had so many pictures, there was so much stuff, and I just took the plunge and went for it, and you develop a style and things change over time. And it gets more and more fun. Smile This board has helped me immensely too, as I can see other people's work, get ideas, and with the various challenges to "try" new things, it helps me learn to expand out of my box, if that makes sense.

Well, sorry to go on and on, but wanted you to know it can be very daunting at first, but after a while you'll wonder what you were ever nervous about once you get going. Smile Welcome again!!!

Hi and welcome!!! I love the page! It's very simple, yet elegent! I am a digi scrapper mostly, although I got my start as a paper scrapper. I think you'll love digi scrapping.

Hiya Lauren! I have stalked the photography board for a long time, so recognize you. Wink LOVE your photos! So glad you joined us over here too. I'm a paper scrapper only, so no help on software etc., but you'll find lots of amazingly talented digi girls over here to help. Like Carrie said though...jump in and develop your own style/favorites.

Welcome. Beautiful photos.

It is hard to critique because we each have our own styles. Your photos are beautiful so I wouldn't want to take away from them too much, but some elements might make your page look more finished - some flowers.

Tee hee... more Feb '08ers invading. Wink

Lauren- This is a great bunch of people here. I don't digital scrap but there are MANY wonderful digital scrappers here. Sometimes it's easier to ask more specific questions, but everyone is really helpful. I think your first page is great!

What size have you decided to work with for printing?

Also, not that I'm discouraging scrapping by any means, but there are websites (like shutterfly) that can be very easy to put together a stylized book if you're more interested in just getting photos in a pretty setting printed many times.

Thanks for the warm welcome Smile I'll have a look around and see what else I can find that might add to it, although perhaps for this one I'll keep it more simple since it's a whole year's worth of photos and how the kids have grown and changed then try something more detailed when I am done, not sure yet. I've seen some beautiful work on this site and look forward to being brave enough to post instead of just the lurking I have been doing!

Thanks Mish, I know about sites like that but figured this was as good a time as any to give it a go Smile not to mention it can be difficult to find a place like that in Australia that won't charge an arm and a leg - it's often cheaper to get things shipped from the US, insane but sadly true. This is 5x5in, I wanted to keep it smallish so it doesn't take over the grandparent's houses (like all the frames we have bought them and filled with photos of our kids over the years lol). I'm thinking about printing them either at home or through our prolab then mounting them on thin foamcore to make a sort of board book, the kids would love that and it could stand on a shelf that way.

Hi, Lauren!!! Glad you posted...I love seeing Rhys and Maddy pics! Biggrin

Your page is beautiful! I have no digi advice since I am a paper scrapper, but I do like the touches of pink that you added. The grandparents will love it! Can't wait to see the rest!

My first thought was that there should be a cursive title right where you put it Smile I was going to say something but I did not know how possible it was to change a digital page. LOVE it!!
