I've been on a sewing obsession!!! (OT)

Hi ladies!!! I went out of town for my birthday..went to visit family. It was a lot of fun. I got a sewing machine this past weekend! I wasn't expecting to get one for another month. My dh's aunt had gotten one as a gift a few years ago and NEVER used it. she never even cut the tape on the box to open it! It's brand spankin' new for FREE!!! We got home yesterday and last night after Eli went to bed, i made a gathered apron. lol i need to work on my gathering skills, I also need to work on the neatness of my work! oh well, practice practice practice! Here are pictures of the apron

This morning I was trying to figure out what to make and i decided to make a cover for my bible. I did this on my own, I didn't have a pattern for it.

Are you kidding me? WOW! You did great! I can't believe that's the first two items you've ever made. Good luck on selling the Bible cover. I may have you make one for me in the future, when we get bills paid. Vacationing was as hard on our budget.

both of those look really great Liz! I wish i could sew. My old neighbor is amazing with that kind of stuff and she would always make her granddaughter's halloween costumes so i grew up always wanting to be able to do that for my kids but i'm not very good at it.

Wow I've never sewn but I can't imagine that it's that easy. Those are amazing for your first try.

Neat!! I got a sewing machine for Mother's day and I haven't even had time to use it. What kind of machine did you get?

OH wow, you did a great job! I am so jealous. I want a sewing machine, though I don't know why because I know I would never use it.

It's a Singer. It has 40 stitch functions. It works for a beginer, I would love to eventually get another one that is computerized. I would also like to get an embroidery machine.

Liz - they look awesome! Love your book cover! and SWEET that you got the machine for free. My first project with my new machine was to make covers for the sewing chair I have (it was a freebie, and been beat up by a cat). Anyhow, I didn't use a pattern, and while the covers aren't perfect, they work well. Doesn't it feel great to sew? Are you going to make diapers? Wink

I would love to make a cover for my chair, but right now it's the dining room chairs lol once we get a house, i'll make one special for my room.

I'm scared of doing diapers...LOL i'm not ready to use elastic! lol

Elastic is easy once you practice ... well, and for me Lastin is MUCH easier than trying to do a casing for regular elastic. Don't let it scare you, elastic doesn't cost much and make some practice diapers from recycled fabrics first. Wink
