Hey! Did you get your sewing machine for x-mas? If so, what kind did you get and how are you liking it? I have been thinking I want one for a while now, but have NO idea how to sew, what kind to get, or how I"d like it. Or where I'd put it for that matter. Just curious how you are making out with yours if you got one. TIA

Yes I did get it for christmas and I got a Singer confidence (although I don't have much confidence. LOL) It is still in the box. I don't want to store it on top of my desk so I'm waiting for DH to make a shelf for under my desk for it to be stored on. I thought about breaking it out this weekend but time escaped me.

Nope not yet. I think once I got it I became scared to use it instead of excited...I read the manual first. I'll get it out this weekend and play with it and let you know how I like it.

I hope this isn't hijacking...wanted to share about my sewing machine experience!

I got a machine last year for Christmas from my MIL and then my sister and I signed up for a sewing class at the local community college. I definitely think that is something worth looking into in your area!

It met one night a week and they had sewing machines there or we could take our own.

We just went into the class with our fabric and/or patterns and an instructor helped us. There were also veteran sewers in the class who sign up for the class every semester just to build sewing time into their schedules.

I think it cost $60 for 12 classes...not bad! I made several baby blankets/burp cloths/pillow case dresses. My sister made an apron, some pillows, and something else, but I can't remember.

I would have totally been too scared and intimidated to pull it out on my own and try to figure it out, but in hindsight, I probably could have done it.

Kebrina, if you have friend/family member who sews it might not be a bad idea to let them help you learn how to thread your machine and get started.

I got a sewing machine a few years ago and I have used it for scrapping maybe 5 times. I LOVE the look, but I hate pulling it out. I am no good at sewing either. If we need clothes or something done then my husband does it lol. If I had a dedicated place to put the sewing machine and have it all ready to go I would use it on layouts all the time. I just hate hate hate having to pull it out and get it set up.

Thats how I feel about my Cricut sometimes Angie. And it's already out, but I have to get the mats, get the cartridge, etc. But i understand what you're saying. I plan to have a new scrap "room" once we move. We'll see though.

SC, thanks for that advice. That is nice to know, I'm sure we have sewing classes like that in our area, they do for most other things.
