If I want to cut a picture into a shape - say, a circle or triangle - how do I do it? Maybe I am just not looking with the correct verbage... help?

The cookie cutter tool will give you a lot of different shape options.

That would be my suggestion as well. It's like the ONLY thing I know how to do on photoshop.

I don't know if this is the easiest way, but I choose the shape tool:

You can load different shapes, go to the 'custom shape tool' or the elipse tool if you want a circle. For an exact circle (not an oval), hold down the shift key while you click and drag on your canvas to make the shape (this will work if you want a perfect square too, or if you're moving a paper onto your background and want it completely centered, hold down the shift key while moving it and it'll be placed in the middle of your page).

Draw your shape and then right click on it in the layers pallete and choose 'rasterize layer'

Then drag your photo to the layer above your shape and clip it to the shape (same way you would on a template).

HTH! Let me know if it doesn't Smile

okay, I got it "rasterized" but now I can't put it on a LO. Help? When I try, it takes the whole picture instead of just the circle cut-out that I made. Smile

Right-click on the layer (the bottom layer, the circle shape or whatever) and 'Merge Clipping Mask' ... that'll work ... make sure you don't save your photo like that though Smile

Ya, I abandonned the monthly after 11 months ... I did a 1 year one, and I figure a 15month (which I just did), 18 month, 21 month, then 2 years will suffice Smile
