need instruction

I'm either too dumb to figure this out - or just don't have the time to figure it out!!! LOL Help me out here!!!! I was playinig with GIMP last night trying to measure out a page. Put in 12x12. It looked rather small - but I am guessing it just shows that way so I can see the whole page on my computer????

Now, how do I get a lay out on the 12 x 12 box??? I went to one or two of the freebee sites and signed up to have stuff sent to me. Well, it looks like the lay out is already done. Can I change the colors? The positioning? The design? Once I unzip the file - how do I get it in the box? heheh I know... I'm lame!!!

I'll start by telling your that there are different types of freebies. Yes, there are layouts that are already done and you just add your picture. There are not really designed to be changed (allthough not impossible by any means). Most freebies are sets of different items. Once you download and unzip them, they will be seperate pieces (ie: 5 different papers, some bows, etc)
Here are some freebies that download as seperate pieces:

These pieces are then added to your page just like you would add a picture. I'm not familiar with that program, but if you know how to insert a photo, you would insert the graphics the same way. You can then resize them as you need to and move them around. Does that help at all?

It sounds like maybe you downloaded a "quickpage" which is what Stephanie was saying, it's a pre-made page.

Ahhh, thank you ladies!!! I found a GIMP scrapbooking tutorial on another scrapbook chat board. It gave me the basics... hopefully my page size is correct.

Let me ask this, I saved it to a jpeg file. Is that what we need to do to print in a book??? Once I get enough pages done, that is! Smile

Yes, that's the format you'll want them all in, .jpeg/.jpg. You cannot go back and play with the layers after that, though. If you want to do that, save it as the default format so that when you re-open the file, the layers are still separate and you can still move things around and add shadows and what not. Does that make sense? lol. GL!

I always save in both.png and .jpg just in case I want to edit it later.
