Need layout help - final version added

This is the page from the edges challenge ... but it needs help. First, it does look better in person than it does here (the background paper is a shade of sage green, but it doesn't come across like that in this photo IMO). I'm unsatisfied with it, it doesn't feel complete to me. I don't know what's missing though ...

The heart cutouts are separated with a pop-up foam thing to lift the photo above the pink paper (since I used a punch for it, I couldn't make them different sizes to shadow, but the pop-up effect does look cool in person).

Do you have any suggestions for it? I haven't put it in the book yet because it's screaming "incomplete!" at me.

I think it's really cute! I love how the egdes turned out for the pink heart, and for the photo on the bottom!

One thing I thought of is that you could maybe do something around the outside of the little hearts to make them stand out from the background a little. Could you maybe doodle around them a little, like little dots or swirls or something? I'm thinking just a really tiny design that would just add a little detail.

Another idea I had was to add something to the upper left and lower right corners, just to add a little color there. Maybe make a little photo corner or something out of your pink paper?

Not sure if you would like either of those ideas, but that's all I've got! I'm sure someone will know what to do. I know exactly what you mean about it just not feeling finished - I hate that feeling!

I would take the pink paper that you did the "L" of love with and cut a strip out and lay it down on the left side taking up some of that blank empty space.

Thats what I was thinking. It will bring a little balance without being too loud. Very cute LO though, love the big heart with the photo in it.

I was thinking the same thing - outline the hearts, and maybe the LOVE letters. Names, journalling and dates would be great too Smile

I like the idea of doodling or drawing around the little hearts and maybe add their names. Just a little something to fill in the blank space.

The paper didn't survive, but I did find two strips in my scrap drawer. They're not glued down, just wanted to see your thoughts

And Trina, the date is stamped in the bottom right corner. I didn't put names cause, well, they're my kids and it will be in a book with plenty of their layouts without their names. Lol

Better. It finishes it off more.

I'm not confident in my doodling abilities, but I like that idea.

I'm playing with something else in my head, not sure when I will have time to do it as I have a few things on my list to accomplish.

It's so sad, I don't even have time to read books anymore (can't count the Kim West sleep book I'm reading now)

ok, wow, that's really cool Gwen! The shadowed title in vellum is the best idea....I'm definitely going to try that! and I love the ribbon pieces with the staples. There is nothing missing imo!

I know what you mean, Gwen. I can't draw to save my life! But I'm thinking something totally simple (if you are interested in doing it). I did it one time on this star that was too plain, which of course I didn't realize until after I had it glued down. I hated it! So I drew with a blue marker around the inside and I ended up liking it much better. Here's a pic, just in case you want to try something similar.

IMO I love the 2nd one but I would make the newly added strips have the raw edges to match your edges around the hart. One with the edge on the left and one with the edge on the right. In a way to "frame" the page and give it more balance. Oh but move the one on the left up closer to the top of the page.

I know you've probably already got them stuck down, but would it be possible to cluster your small heart pictures together? I think the problem was too much spread-out white space. Then if you clustered the hearts together, you could add those pink strips and maybe some dots (the dots of a hole punch come to mind -- maybe out of your vellum) on the white space that's left.

Those are just ideas, I think the extra strips on your second one really help frame in the whole thing. I really like it that way! Smile

here's the final version, really appreciate all of the great ideas!

I'm so mad I didn't think of this sooner. I had originally cut these hearts out of the same paper as love (which is why I had nothing left for strips) as I was going to put them under the photos. Went with the light pink to match the sanded photo instead and put these hearts in the bag of scraps for the kids. I think they work perfectly now. Smile

Gwen, I love it. Sorry I didn't get to comment before, but I think you did a beautiful job on this page. I love the wordart and the 3-D hearts Smile

That looks really nice! That little pop of color really finished it off well! I love the little ribbons on the L. Gonna have to steal that idea if you don't mind. Wink
