New to scrapbooking

Hey ladies I'm new to scrapbooking and have a question. I'm doing my very first scrapbook for our daughter, Savannah. She's almost 5 months old. I was wondering if it's best to break up the pages by category (i.e. "Me and my mommy", "Me and my daddy", "Beach trips", etc) OR should I do it by month so that I can do all sorts of different pics for each month? I'm leaning towards doing it by month that way we can see her growing up and we can remember when certain events took place (under the "June 2008" date we would have her first beach trip pictures, under September 2008 we'd have her first trip to the USS Arizona, and her grandparents first trip to Hawaii etc). Does that make sense? Thanks for the input!

Welcome to the board!

I'm kind of scrapping in random order, but my intent is to have books for each year. So things will be done in somewhat chronological order. Although most of my pages aren't "month pages" but events or moments/memories.

Once you start scrapping, I think you'll just find the groove of how you want to organize your book! Good luck!

Hi Becca and welcome!!

It's up to you how you'd like to organize your daughter's book. That's what makes scrapbooking fun...you can personalize it to just what you want. I did some pages by month in my son's first year album, but most of his were event/moments. But one of my friends IRL did her kid's albums in month-by-month layouts and it turned out really nice.

Welcome! I would say just make pages as you go. As long as you have a drop in scrapbook you can always switch pages around in the end. For me I am better at doing what inspires me at that moment. Good Luck and glad to see another scrapper. P.S. are you paper or digital?

I do exactly what Beth does. It's still in chronological order, so you see him grow up, but scrapped by events/moments/memories. welcome to the board!! Can't wait to see some work! Smile

Hello Becca and welcome! We are glad to have you and thank your man for serving for us please!

I do what Beth and Aja do as well. I scrap like "first bath", "6 month milestones" things like that that inspire me, and then put them in order. I don't just scrap each month, but things are in order of months, as best as they can be anyway.

I agree with PP who said once you get going that you will see how you want it to go based on how you are scrapping. GL and hope you can post often.

welcome!!!!

I do my kids' first year book by months and then I have some "random" pages for things like eating, sleeping, friends, siblings.

Can't wait to see your pages!

:wavehello: I think you can do both. Do a monthly LO that shows what DD is doing/has learned, but also do events. I plan on doing that with our next one. HTH! Glad you are joining us! Biggrin

when I first started scrapping my son was eight months old and I tried to do it chronologically as much as I could but mostly it's a huge hodgepodge. the most important thing is to have fun doing it.Scrap what you think of as important. They are your memories.

Thanks ladies!! I'm doing paper scraping right now but I'm thinking about doing an online one also that I can share with family back home. Any good websites that you recommend? I tried Scrapblog the other day and the page where you do the scrapping would never open

I do the same as a lot of people here, I scrap out of order, but put the pages in chronological order once they're in the album.

Welcome to the board, can't wait to see some of your work!!! Are you digital or paper?

I must have been replying at the same time you were Smile

You can do online scrapping, or digital scrapping where you get a program and make the pages yourself. Check out the sticky at the top of the board to get started on either paper or digital, there is lots of info there!

As others said, it is up to you. I like to scrap in order I find it is easiest for me. I scrapped in order when I did paper and now that I do digital as well.

Welcome! Smile Just as others said I did my daughters first year scrapbook by month, but now I just do random pages, but do keep them in order.

I don't know about online scrap places. But if you decide to buy a digital program (whether PhotoShop Elements or something else) you can save your pages as jpegs and upload them anywhere you want to share them with your family/friends (photobucket, flickr, facebook, etc).
