Newbie!

Hi Everyone! My name is Amanda and i am hopping over from the July 07 board to here, I have been thinking about my son Ryne's (pronounced Ryan) first birthday and i would really love to put together a scrapbook for his first year and have his family and friends sign the pages at his bday party and then save it for him. Problem is...I have no idea what I am doing! LOL! I have been reading through the tutorials and looking at ideas and i just have to say you ladies make wonderful LO's! I have been so inspired by looking through the threads and now I can't wait to get started. But I am still so confused and so overwhelmed. Do I need the cricut in order to cut out shapes and letters and such? Or is it just more convient to use it? I hope to get to know you all and start to share some of my LO's that I get to working on, and any advice and ideas would be greatly appreciated! Biggrin

HI Amanda!!! Glad to have you over here! I think those who own the circut here on this site is 50/50. I dont have one, i usually buy embellishments or cut them out by hand. I would LOVE to have the cricut, but it is too expensive for use right now.

All of these ladies here have such wonderful talent and GREAT advice! and sooooo nice! Biggrin i love them all! A lot of them have helped with a lot of different stuff other then scrapbooking. Biggrin

I can't wait to see the pages you come up with. I too am starting to make Eli's first year scrapbook, but i have 2 months to do it before his party! lol

btw...Ryne is sooooo adorable! and i LOVE the different spelling of his name!

Thank You! It was my DH's choice on the name and his hero is Ryne Sandberg from the Chicago cubs so when we found out we were having a boy DH was so excited and wanted to give his son that name and I just couldn't argue with it even though I am not too thrilled with it  Biggrin

hi and welcome to the board
I just recently got a cricut which I use for alot of my letters (not as much on shapes because I only have two carts.)

before that I used stickers, punch-out letters work the best IMO you can buy them by the packs--walmart sells them, also handwriting and chipboard (which I LOVE)
and Jolees which I also love!! or any 3-D sticker really Smile

really no matter what you use it can't be wrong--everyone has their own unique style thats what makes scrapbooking fun to see what you can come up with and also to see what everyone else does and get tips/tricks and learn something new everyday!

I LOVE it!! and I know you will too

can't wait to see what you come up with

Yay, welcome to the board! Bubba Doodle is super cute and I love the spelling too! I love unique spellings (just look at my name....LOL)! You don't need the Cricut, though I'm sure it's an awesome machine, like the girls have been saying, but you can find already cut letters and shapes through craft stores. Stickers have always been my biggest thing, but have slowly stepped outside my box and trying new things! I can't wait to see pics! I'm currently working on Tyler 1st year books too to share at his 1st birthday (coming up April 2nd)!

Welcome! I love your idea of making a scrapbook that the family can sign, etc. That sounds wonderful. I wish I'd thought of that last year Lol

I'm a digital scraper so I'm not much help with the letters, etc. When I did paper, I just did everything by hand.

Welcome (I'm new too). I also don't have a cricut...I mostly use stickers. Although after reading through things on here and seeing everyone elses ideas there are alot of other things I want to try too!

Hi Amanda!! Ryne is adorable! I'm glad you joined us. You don't need a Cricut to scrapbook, it's just another helpful tool. You can find so many great stickers and embellishments at Walmart and scrapbooking/hobby stores. To get started, just buy yourself some paper and the basics (paper cutter, adhesive, etc.) and start laying your pictures down. Let your creativity flow! Biggrin You'll soon find it's quite addicting. Lol You've been warned. hehe

Welcome to the board! Your son is so cute, BTW! I just started scrapbooking in January this year, and this board has been a tremendous help to me.

I don't have a cricut - although I wouldn't mind having one someday - we just can't afford it right now.

My LOs started out very simple, with not a lot of embellishments, because I've just got to buy things little by little. I use the 40% off coupons to buy things at JoAnns, and I like their $1 scrapbook supply section. The Dollar Store also has some good stuff.

I agree with what other people have said - just start out with the basics, and you will be totally hooked from there. I'm accumulating cute little embellishments, letters, etc. quite quickly. Have fun, and I can't wait to see some of your work!

:wavehello: Hi Amanda from another July 07 mommy! Nice to see you on here! I have been scraping for a few years, but haven't had much time since Kayley was born!

I don't have a cricut either and don't know if I ever would since the price is pretty high. There are so many other things you can do!

Welcome Amanda!!

I remember being in your shoes ... I started scrapbooking when my oldest was about 8 months old. I had a lot of catching up to do, I think he was over 2 by the time I finished his first year book. Wink

I just got my cricut in the fall, so before then I was using stickers mainly for letters, and sometimes I'd print my titles on colored cardstock and then cut that to make a banner for the page. there's lots you can do.

my biggest piece of advice is to try to crop with a couple of more experienced croppers in person. that's where I've always learned the most. if there's a local scrapbook store by you, find out when they do crop nights. and sometimes they host basic classes (for example, I recommend a color block class, that's an awesome and easy technique to learn for pages).

anyhow, try not to be overwhelmed just jump right in. chances are, you'll be like the majority and will look back on your initial pages with fondness, you know you were learning. but it's okay, because in the long run, you're preserving your son's memories, it really doesn't matter how you end up doing it. Wink

btw, I'm sure I have at least one Ryne Sandberg card in my baseball card collection!
