I e-mailed Trina to pass this on, but my laptop is behaving for the moment.
My main computer had a hard drive failure yesterday. I was able to get on it just enough to save the rest of our photos and a couple documents. I'm going to get another flash drive and try to save the last of the files. My music will have to bite the dust.
Why this means I can't be around much despite being on now is this: I have this OLD laptop. It runs on Ubuntu only, but it does allow us to connect to the internet. However, it's a temperamental bitty and it doesn't like pg.org much. I can come here and read, but to log on, I have to go through the main page, retype my password on the edit page, perform a rain dance and offer my first born to the service of God. It's a 10ish minute ritual, but it's totally this computer and not my account.
Yesterday we had the Cruiser break too (wouldn't start). This is all added to the tv that turns itself on and off at will. 3 big ticket items. 1 itty bitty budget.
The car will get fixed as a first priority. We almost have all the money we need for the tv. We have a start to a new computer fund. But given that we have something to access the internet with and another computer that has Word that hubby can type sermons with, we decided to save for what we want (that will last us years) and not bust our credit doing it.
So I'll be watching.... and whenever I have a spare 10 minutes to perform a rain dance, I just might get back here to post even.
Miss you all already!
(This also means I have no way of putting my pictures on the computer right now so I'm going to have to stockpile any work I do.)
oh my!! Ubuntu? I vaguely remember that from long ago. Sorry Michelle! You are sure going to be missed! Hope the fund gets funded ASAP! (Tell the church to take up a special "computer offering"...lol, tell them it's for the pastor's wife's sanity) Glad you'll still be able to stay in the loop by checking in though!! Do you have a library nearby? I know when my internet goes, that's the first place I go. Kayson reads and plays in the children's room (right next to the PCs) while I get online.
Kayson 10-9-06 & Cohen 02-08-10
Bummer. I am glad you were able to salvage your photos though. That's all I was worried about when it came to my computer crashing. We will miss you tons. BTW...our old tv did the same thing. Let me know the reason when you find out okay? We never took ours to get it fixed.
Oh Michelle! I'm so sorry. How about a new harddrive for $100-$200 instead of a new computer. That would hold you over for while. We will miss you!
As a funny side note, the harddrive in my old computer died within days of transfering my pics and scraps to the new laptop that I had to beg for this last Christmas. DH looked into getting it fixed and it would have been about $200 so he sold the computer (with bad harddrive) for $150 instead!
Anyway, I'm sorry you are getting hit with all of this stuff at once. Of course the vehicle is a priority, but I hope you won't be gone for too long. Have you considered looking on craigslist for the tv or computer?
Oh, and like Charys said, the library is a great place to spend an hour on the internet
that stinks!!!!! and I had to laugh about the raindance and child sacrifice. I liked Ubuntu the few times I played with it. I had Fedora installed on my computer for a long time, but missed my Windows apps too much.
anyhow, good luck getting it all fixed. hope you can spend some time at the library. to catch up with us when you can.
