organization - digi girls

DH cleared off an external hard drive for me to use for scrapping stuff b/c I now have 10+ burned discs (dvd) of "stuff" and I can never find things when I need them. So, I am busy moving everything over to the EHD.

My question is... how do you have your stuff organized? I will be organizing it all on the EHD this week and I'm looking for ideas to make it easy to find things... so far I have folders for photoshop versions of finished projects, jpeg versions, scraplift folder, in progress, and "stuff". Lol It's the "stuff" that I need help with. Do you leave kits together or separate everything into papers, elements, etc? I can see ups and downs to both so I thought I'd see what you gals do.

TIA for any advice!

I organize by kits.... and other random stuff just goes into appropriate folders; such as I have a papers folder, etc.

ditto.

It depends on if you like to scrap by kits or not. I definately DO, it saves me tons of time. I have the kits in folders by topic (ie: Christmas, Halloween, Autumn...)

I'm refining mine since I have soooo much stuff. Wink

One thing I started doing was to save a folder of just previews of kits. I can go through and see general color schemes or other themes (like birthday, holiday, etc) with just a glance through one folder.

I break my kits down, because I pick and choose elements. I main folders of papers, elements, and alphas. Then I break down my papers into misc textures, solids, animal themes, polka dots, flowers. Elements are divided into word art, buttons, frames, flowers, misc shapes, fasteners, etc.

I label all my kits by designer, then kit name. Previews have the same type of label so I can go find individual pieces of the kits.

Oh Boy ...

Where to start? I have over 112 GB worth of stuff. I have an organization problem too - but I have a system that works for me, for the most part.

I keep all kits together, with a folder for the kit. I label it "kit name-deisnger name" so that all I have to do is copy and paste this info for figuring out credits. My favorite designers (and ones I CT for) have a folder just for them, and then I have a bunch of categories everything else 'misc' goes into. I also label if it was a freebie (just by putting F with the kit name) so that if I ever feel the need to delete it, I know that I didn't pay for it.

These are my categories (too lazy to write them out)

I have another folder that I download everything to ("New Scrapbooking") until I get the time to sort it all out and put it in the right folders, and put the names in the right order for me.

I also keep all my pages/work in a separate folder, with a subfolder for the PSD files, and the JPG for Web files.

And I still can't find anything. LOL

Thanks for posting about this. I got really frustrated during vc because I couldn't find anything I was looking for. I have 7 discs worth of stuff so far, and it seems to be growing. I was thinking about printing "proof" sheets of each kit on paper, that way i could just look it up in a folder instead of digging around the computer Smile But i never seem to have enough time to get around to it Wink

I wanted to print proof sheets too, but I realized recently it would be hundreds of page.

Yep, would be a lot of pages of proof sheets here, too! That's part of the reason why I started a "preview" folder. I can just go through that folder as thumbnails to see what I've got. Smile
