OT Easter egg question :)

Just wondering what you all put in your LOs easter eggs/baskets. With three kids now I just wonder how much I really have to spend on Easter, ya know? We don't have family here and noone mails anything, so all they get comes from us now. Which is fine. I really don't want my kids to get a bunch of candy anyway. So wondering what I could put in the little plastic eggs that will allow them to find a bunch of eggs still, yet not be overloaded with candy. Then for baskets, I probably will get some candy, but what else do you put in? Keep in mind I have one that is 2 and one that is 1. So change or other small items in the eggs will not be a great idea. TIA for any and all tips. Smile

For DS I put matchbox cars, stickers, and snacks like cheerios and fruit snacks. I have also managed to theme out his baskets so far. The first year he got a bunny Mr. Potato Head and a few eggs. The second year I bought him a $4 toolbox at walmart with a couple of plastic tools and put a few more eggs in it. This year, I bought bubbles, chalk, and such from the dollar tree to put in his basket. He will be 3 in few weeks.

Carrie ~ growing up I was one of 4 kids and we lived on my dads military pay. So every year we hard boiled and died easter eggs put those in a basket and the "Easter Bunny" hid them around the house. That was our fun on Easter Morning.

In our baskets we always had a chocolate bunny, jelly beans and a few of the marshmellow ducks/bunnys.

At my moms house (divorced parents) she usually did a "community" basket. I was the middle of 3 there and mom was a single mom. But usually in the community basket was a movie or something that all 3 of us could watch with her.

last year I put dried fruits and just a bit of candy in DD's eggs. She loved looking for them. I want to do the same thing again this year but the thing is...she's had her eggs out from last year so they are spread everywhere in her toy box :-? little stinker managed to find them and just spread them everywhere so that idea is out for this year as it won't be new anymore. Sad I will hide eggs though but I will hard boil eggs then die them and I will be buying some plastic eggs that DD and I will paint and then I'll hide those on easter (only around the house though since there is still tons of snow outside Sad ) ... my easters when i was a kid were sunny and warm. not dark and gloomy and cold. But.... as for filling in eggs, dried fruit is good, stickers, just small snacks. They don't even sell easter baskets here so can't help ya on that one. I'd figure toys would be a good idea. DH is not really big into easter :-?

I don't do a lot of candy in Ruthie's. She usually has enough. I like the fruit snack idea though!

As for toys/gifts- I want to get her a good Easter book, *maybe* a fishing pole (that's what she wants), and maybe a movie or something like Veggie Tales. Biggrin

We usually get some small stuff for playing outside since it's finally getting a bit nicer out. Sidewalk chalk, new container of bubbles, stuff like that.

As far as things to put inside the plastic eggs we do the same as pps...cheerios, jelly beans, etc. When I was younger I remember that some of ours would have a few quarters in them to put in our piggy banks. Maybe we'll do that this year!

We usually put small toys, stickers, hair barrets, etc from the dollar store in the eggs. This year for mom's group, we also have little tags that say they get a big prize and we have a bunch of larger items they can choose from that don't fit in eggs - things like crayons, bubbles, etc.

Last year I put little hair barretts and things in Rori's eggs and stickers and stuff in Kayson's eggs. And I bought fruit snacks to go in them too. This year I want to put some really inexpensive (dollar store) rubber stamps and a tiny ink pad (I've got 6 itty bitty ones that will fit in an egg from the Dollar store too)

We fill a couple hundred eggs for our church Easter egg hunt! And only a small portion of that is candy. We do little boxes of raisins, fruit snacks, fruit by the foot, etc. We use a variety of egg sizes (they do make large size ones that hold things like the cars and fruit snacks well and the mini ones are good for stickers). And lots of stuff comes from the dollar store (silly putty eggs, stickers, small animals, tub toys, etc.)

For us at home, Caleigh can't do a lot of foods or candy, so we get her a stuffed animal and/or a new DVD for her. I know moms of older kids put in things like a new video game.

Kayley is in ove with Curious George and I found a binch of CG stuff in the dollar bins at Target; there is a CG mini stuffy, some stickers, crayons, markers, stamps, etc. Mostly crafty type sutff. I also got her a mini-magna-doodle and some side walk chalk. I think I will put in some animal crackers or teddy grahms or pb crackers too (some of her fav snacks).

Last year I gave him a few choclates in his eggs. In the basket I put hot wheels cars, crayons, bubbles...stuff like was already said. I also bought him several pairs of spring and summer pjs and put around the basket. This year I am going to do similar stuff...cars, bubbles, new crayons (last years are mostly broken now), sidewalk chalk, toys for the sandbox. I think I am going to try to find some new Bible Story books too.

I get them all a bunny (stuffed animal) Then they each get a 10.00 toy and some candy. I also put the bunny ears and in their baskets so they can wear them on easter. We color eggs the night before and the easter bunny hides the entire basket for them to find in the morning, then we go to the Easter egg hunt Smile

Rainbow colored goldfish!!!! But I can't get away with that as easily now as the older kids expect m&ms and jelly beans. So I have those too.

The neighbors just did their egg hunt tonight, and there's all sorts of little stuff from Oriental Trading (and I will throw most of it away when they're not looking because it's crap, in addition to being choking hazards for Jack).

I don't go nuts with the eggs or the baskets. The other stuff in the baskets are a hollow chocolate bunny ($1 each), Reeses pieces carrots (couldn't resist at Walmart the other night), a small toy (like under $5), and a bubble wand. We dye eggs too but don't hide those around because I'm paranoid about food poisoning (we like to eat them!)

Jamie is 2 and we will be putting ONE gummy in some of the eggs and a couple stickers in the others. He will be thrilled with that and I see no reason to do more yet.

We will dye eggs, because I think it will be fun and hide those around the house ( thats how I did it as a kid) and the plastic eggs are fun for outside to hide for him, but they won't really be hidden lol, more like dumped.

Oh we will definitely dye our eggs and hide some in the back yard for him to find, although they certainly won't be hid too hard to find, since he's only two. The older kids are with their mom this year so that makes it easier to have the hunt. There will also be teh reeses ppeanut butter egss out there along with the plastic ones. We have an abundance of eggs, so some might have only one piece of candy, others will have a few small M&M's. He's getting a huge Peter Rabbit Chocolate Bunny (can you tell I go slightly overboard on holidays?) and the best part is I can type all this up while he's standing at the desk and he can't read a word of it yet. LMAO.

Oh I do that all the time....

But the one thing I absolutely do not allow in my house are those super bouncy balls. If I find those at a party, tehy go right into the trash. My stepson choked on one when he was almost nine and spent a week in the PICU recovering. He had to be airlifted to the hospital. I will never allow one of those in my house. EVER.
