    Default OT I'm sad

My son goes to school with this absolutely sweet Chinese girl. Her parents own the Chinese Restaurant in town. They've been legal aliens in America for over 15 years. They attend the church where the girl goes to school. Always soft spoken and kind.

Well, the kid's piano teacher told my husband (who is a Pastor, so it's not quite the same as idle gossiping) that this girl told her her mom has been crying every night for the last month.

It turns out that the husband has been arrested and in jail for over a month. He forgot to update his papers and then was pulled over without them on him, when he was supposed to have them. Now, unless some senator will intervene, he will be deported and banned from the United States for 8 years.

My husband has forgotten to update his driver's license before. Like expired 4 months forgotten. I can understand how easily one can put aside the records and then forget what date they needed to be renewed. This little girl is dual citizen. So is her brother. They have a well established business and are model citizens. And now this.

Now I know it's his fault for forgetting to update his records, but it's still sad. I wish they could look at his past history or something.

So you praying types, please pray with me for this family.

That is so sad. You should put it on Facebook because you never know ... you could have someone in your friends list that has Senate connections that can help them.

I agree. It should be a quick stamp of approval to get his papers in order. There are a ton of legal immigrants that forget to renew their I-551 card. I believe they now need to be renewed every 10 yrs now, but it changes in time and not everyone understands when new legislation goes through with all the changes. I think it's a huge disgrace that they're actually looking at deporting him rather than helping him with the process. We had problems initially getting my DH's work permit, but we went to a bigger USCIS office and insisted on waiting for a supervisor after being told he'd have to reapply and repay the fee to get it, which could take months. The insistence paid off as he had his work permit within 15 minutes after speaking with the supervisor.

I would definitely have the wife find out exactly what forms need to be completed, have the husband sign the forms, and go to the nearest USCIS office and have her speak to someone in person and not to leave until someone can help. If they need new biometrics, well the police department would have his profile and finger prints that they could easily access. If they continue to not help, then I'd seek an attorney that specializes in immigration law. Good luck and lots of prayers for the family!

This is really sad. What a messed up system we have. I will be praying that someone will intervene. This is really awful and it is so easy to forget to have the papers renewed.

Sounds like some help is being sent. There is a possibility for citizenship. But until then, he has to stay in jail. I can only get sketchy details because it's being kept under wraps. But their Pastor has told me what he could.

Sending positive thoughts that things can work out for them! You'd think with the kids having American citizenship the parents would have some claim to stay (since the kids are minors after all) ... hopefully it works out!
