Paper piecing with a Cricut (Minnie Mouse Card)

I just snapped these photos to demonstrate how easy (really) making the little layered images are. I timed myself from start to finish and it took about 10 minutes to create Minnie. I wanted to do this because a couple of you asked how long these took. They are much easier than they look. The first time I created one it took almost 30 minutes, but you get the hang of it so fast.

The easiest and fastest way to do these is first find all the colors you will need in your scraps. These are good for using up even your tiniest scraps. Then I take my two mats (obviously you can do this with one mat, but two saves a lot of time) and put the scraps of paper on them....like so.....

there are four different colors between the two mats. I would only need to load one more mat with my other colors while the other mat is being cut.

This is the image I chose:

Here is some of the scraps being cut

I take them all off then start gluing them onto the black base. The little indentions act as a guide so there is no question on trying to line things up.

And the finished product!

I took and cut two hearts from George and Basic shapes...using the patterned paper for the smaller heart and shadow feature for the black heart. added some flowers and it was done!

So then you just adjust the mat to where the right color of paper is? I've only used a big cricut but when I did, I just pressed the "load paper" button. how do you get it lined up? (I guess that's a more general cricut question)

You would hit "load paper", then use the arrows to move the mat to where the paper scraps are. HTH

mwhahahaha, be careful what you wish for!!!!! Wink I was actually going to make Cars card today. I'm going to give Kayson 3 cards for his 3rd birthday. Yes, first child syndrome runs high in this house. Poor Cohen probably won't get half the stuff.

What a great job! I really need to get my cricut out of storage. I bought it when it was first out and they only had 5-6 carts.....I'm gonna need to spend a TON to get caught up Smile

Oh my gosh. I am so dumb. I was wondering what the arrows are for. Thank you for asking that Michelle!!

Glad that helped Ash! Don't feel stupid...I had a lot of people helping me figure my cricut out or I may still have not known that. Now you can use up whatever little scraps you want and cut many colors without ever removing your mat.

You don't know how bad I wish I could. This week has had me totally spoiled. I am going to cry leaving Kayson again next week. Sad And my hubby's been so sweet letting me do all the scrapbooking I want and helping with all the cleaning, so I don't have to at night.
