Photoshop help!

I am trying to figure out photoshop (CS2) and having some troubles. All of the tutorials I find talk about the "layer palette" and working from it. I can't figure out how to view this. Also, when I add a picture on top of a background paper, it does not have a little box around it (bounding box) so that I can resize. It's so frustrating!!! I am sure it is because I just set up the program on my laptop and there is something simple I need to change to make it work... any suggestions?

what have you been using GIMP? i had been using CS3, and found it frustrating that i was not able to resize pictures in another project....maybe you have to do it before you drop it?

I have PSE 5 but I'll take a whack at helping you.

You have to tell it to show your layers pallet on the right hand side. You should be able to select 'window' from the top menu and click on layers pallet. It should then have a check mark. Anything with the check mark next to it will show up on the righ tof your screen.

In PSE you click on the move tool (the arrow that goes with your mouse movements) and there should be a couple boxes that pop up, under the regular drop down menu, with options for that tool. Click on the box that says 'show bounding box'. Now you should have your little 'handles' so you can resize.

Hopefully that helped or at least gave you a jumping off point.

I know! She's on vacation though. Of course. I guess I'll just have to be patient. Hmph.

Sneaking on from the inlaws - was just going to lurk, but saw this and had to help a girl out Smile

First, the layer's pallette should be exactly where pickle in the middle says ... if you still can't find it, let me know and I'll do a screen shot when I get home.

Second, the box to resize things - when you have your move tool selected (top of your tools palette, it's the black arrow), if you look above it (under the file/edit menus) it'll have things like "Auto select layer, (something else in the middle), Show Transform Controls" - Make sure that box is selected, then you should have the 4 corners so you can drag and resize. To keep the proportions, click the little icon that looks like a link (after you resize a bit there will be boxes with % in them for how much you've changed them with a little link icon, it'll keep the proportions the same) ... If that doesn't work, try Ctrl-T (transform), if should work.

If none of that works, you'll have to wait til I get home to do some screen shots Blum 3 Hope it works though!

Thanks, Trina! Figured out the box, but can't seem to keep proportions. Maybe you can help with that when you get home

Ok, I did some screen shots - hope this helps! If not, let me know ...

The first is where the "show transform controls" thing is - only appears when the black arrow is selected (to the left).

If you grab one of the corners and drag to resize, pixels and percentages show up on the bar on the top ... in between them is a thing that looks like a little chain link, click that and it'll constrain proportions. click the checkmark when you have whatever it is to the size you want.

And, btw ... isn't my girlie's hair cute? Smile LOL
