Photoshop question - lining up objects (upated with card post 4)

I'm working on the Valentine's card for my parents, and I'm having a hard time lining things up. How do I get a title aligned so that all of the letters are equally distributed?

Here's what I'm working on ... my eyes are tired and I can't tell if everything is even here. I've done it all by hand, in terms of resizing and lining up. There MUST be an easier way!

I would love to know the answer to this as well!

When I'm using the alpha kits I just pull all of my letters to the page and resize them to the same proportion (all to 50% or whatever), but then I just have to eyeball the lining up part. I'm about to post another LO where you will see that I am not always successful!

If it is word art or an element I turn it 90* or 180* if that makes sense, but with the individual letters I just have no idea.

BTW, I think what you have looks pretty good, but I can't tell if I'm holding my laptop crooked or if the word VALENTINE might slant downwards justttttttt a little bit.

no, it's not slanting downward, I used a transparent background, so the letters are lined on the grid. but I want to know how to line them so that the spaces in between are even in addition to it being level. ugh.

Here's the finished card ... does everything look lined up? (I still want the answer on how to do it so I don't lose so much time doing it the hard way. Wink

That looks really great Gwen! I think you did a fantastic job getting everything lined up. I wish I had a great answer to your original question but I do the same thing as you and put my words on a transparent background and use the grid to line up. I look forward to seeing if anyone has a better way.

Oh, and you have the most beautiful children! Smile

Sorry, I don't use photoshop. Microsoft has a simple way to space evenly and line up so bottoms are even, etc, but it only works if letters were all saved on same size background (hard to explain). Otherwise, I eyeball with lines, just like you do. I find it helps to zoom in as much as possible, little discrepancies show up more when they are bigger! Lol

I will do a screen shot at home, there is an option on the options bar (where you confirm/cancel changes) when you have your move tool selected where you can align by bottom edge, distribute by horizontal centers, etc. It works sometimes on alphas, but it really works well with objects that are the same size (ie photos, circles, etc). I will do a screenshot tonight to show you where it is - at work right now.

ADORABLE card, btw! Smile

What Trina said. You can choose to align the vertical or horizontal centers. It makes things SO much easier. I was so excited when I found that tool!

yeah, I found that tool ... but I can't seem to find an easy way to resize the alphas so that they're the same. argh! but thanks! I actually kept playing with the different distribute tools until I found one that worked. but my letter sizes were off by a little bit so then it was more work. wish it was easy!

No idea about Photoshop but the one you created looks great. Love the hearts across the bottom. Very cute Gwen!

Resizing alphas - put them all onto your page at once, select all the layers you want in the layers palette and resize them together, then place them where you want. This way they'll all change by the same percentage (and they should have been created in the same size, hopefully!)

I've been resizing my alpha to the same percentage one alpha at a time -
so if I kind of stacked them on top of each other and "grabbed" them all for one layer, I could resize them together?

And Gwen, I loved the first card yesterday, but you are right...that head tilt makes it perfect! Great work!
