I do some picture printing at home, but in all reality...at 2.99 or 3.99 to print an 8 x 10, it is cheaper sometimes. It is costly to buy all the inks for my photo printer. I printed 9 8 x 10's the other day and three of my inks are nearly out. Those are 12.99 a color.
If I need a few 4 x 6's, I'll print them at home, but for 8 x 10s...I upload and print somewhere else.
I also don't like 8 x 10's with printer ink. They have an odd sheen to them that I don't notice on the smaller prints.
It's not cost effective for me to print at home because of the cost of ink. So I order through Snapfish or Walmart most of the time.

Word of advice ask a million questions if buying an Epson printer.
I bought one years ago which I loved how simple it was and how it did everything. what I did not love is if one color is out you couldn't even print in black. That printer died only to find out that there is a part that dies out which is loacted in the printer itself instead of on the ink cartridges like most other brands, making it much to costly to have repaired.
I figured it wasn't very cost effective either with having to buy more ink all the time. I upload mine online (mpix.com) and have it shipped to my house.
