Recycling?

I'm a recycle nut. I recycle every scrap of paper I can (drives me nuts to find paper in the trash can by DH's desk).

That being said, I also recycle most of my scrapbooking paper refuse that can't be reused. I wonder if that's okay. I mean, it's still paper and can still be turned into pulp. What do you think?

I toss the vellum because I don't think that's "real" paper, right?

I recycle a lot too, but almost all my paper scraps (in the winter atleast) go into our wood stove. I still start a little fire each morning (even if it's in the 70's by afternoon) because it's in the 30s. Our only heat comes from our fireplace, so I save all my unusable scraps to help start the fire. Smile Then I take the ashes and use them for my flower beds and yard.

I would think it would be just fine.

Charys- I have NEVER thought about keeping my scraps for the fireplace. What a good idea. Randall's really bad about not leaving me what I need, so scraps would help a lot!

I wish we had a fireplace. Sad We have a gas one but we never use it, and DH tried to light it for kicks earlier this winter and it wouldn't ignite. We've lived here 9 years and haven't used it at all.

I take most of my scraps to school and let my students use them for art. My girls especially love to make things with them. It's nice to have when its too cold to go outside. I just keep a shoebox and fill it as I go.

Mine go into the fireplace too...all of our paper goes into the fireplace actually. I WISH that ours was our only source of heat though like you Charys. Smile

I love my fireplace!! It's my favorite thing about winter. Something about keeping it going all day is cozy and romantic. But our winter only lasts for a month of two, so it is short-lived.

yep I put all my scraps into recycling. We recycle almost everything here. You can get fined if you throw it in the garbage. lol...so it was sooo crazy for me living in England and seeing people dump paper, pop cans, EVERYTHING into the trash and look at me like I was from mars when I asked where the recycling bin was lol

OMG I'm so opposite!! LOL We've been using our darn fireplace since October...have went through 6, almost 7, pickup truck loads of wood...amounts to almost 1000.00 in wood. I HATE it by this time of the year...so messy, so dry in the air, UGH!!! But it does help a bit with the oil bill,, so I do it. Smile

And Karen, I am also the opposite of you. We also HAVE to recycle, and that was a new thing for me...I was like "what, you are MAKING me recycle or billing me???". LOL But I'm used to it now, it's no bigee. Smile

We recycle too. I am so good about plastics, cardboard, cans, and glass. But horrible with my paper...well except newspaper. I am always forgetting and throwing my bills and envelopes in the small trash can by the desk (that's where I open them all). But DH is pretty good about digging them out! I never think about my scrapbooking scraps...cuz I am a freak about trying to use every scrap up. I have a whole folder of scraps...I just can't seem to throw them away! Blum 3

oh, I keep anything that might be usable. The stuff I toss is really stuff that needs to be tossed. Lol

Here in WA we're freaks about recycling Wink I keep almost everything that I could possibly use, but I recycle anything else. I keep a small trash bin in the office and use it for recycling along with the small trash can...that way we can throw mail, soda cans, etc in there too.

We also have the ability to recycle our food here too! It goes in the yard waste bin if you have one. We dont at our house, we throw yard waste on the side of the house and use it for compost about once a year or burn big branches that fall from our trees in the winter for "fire camps" (camp fires Wink in the summer) with marshmallows. The food that is palatable to my outside critters gets thrown out to them. ITs a great recycling program Wink Last night I found a bottle of fish oil capsules and thought, hey my raccoons might like these! I threw them out there and they gobbled them all up! What the raccoons dont eat, the 'possums, squirrels, and birds clean up.
