    Default Selling digital cards

Do any of you sell and of the digital cards or layouts that you make? I am making one of those 4x8 photo christmas cards for a friend and thought of maybe trying to sell some elsewhere. Do I have to get permission for the different brushes, backgrounds, and embellishments that I use? (Some are just from Photoshop, others are downloaded for free) Just wondering if it is even worth trying to do this or if it is going to be to much trouble

Check the TOU that came with each of the elements, papers, etc. MOST 'freebies' are not for commercial use (ie you can't make a profit on them), but you can contact the designer and ask. If they came with photoshop, then I think they're fair game, but if you downloaded somewhere, you probably need permission.

Yep, a lot of freebies are personal use only. Commerial-use items are okay and some say that scrap-for-hire is okay as well. We do have one or two ladies who make cards on this board, hopefully they will respond.

Scrap for Hire (S4H) is when someone pays you to do scrapbook pages for you. It's actually fairly popular, but you have to be careful with copyright infringement - MOST kits, even if you purchase them, are NOT S4H friendly - you have to purchase a commercial use license to do things like that. Basically, the people who designed the graphics don't want you to profit from them making it, just themselves, but most are willing to sell commercial use licenses for things like S4H and selling pages, etc.

Do you only use the templates or do you use some of the stuff from your editing program too. Like if I use a brush that is in Photoshop do i have to somehow get permission for that or is it up for grabs cause I bought the program?

I sell them ... but I can't use any of the freebies I've downloaded unless the TOU say it's okay for commerical use. So I bought a huge kit that allows commercial use, and that's what I use for the cards I sell. When I'm making cards for my own events (like Jack's baptism and Andrew's recent birthday), I use whatever I want because I'm not getting paid for it. But anything I sell, I make sure that it's okay for commercial use. It's very limiting though ...
