On the subject of Potty Training....(OT)

[FONT=Century Gothic][COLOR=darkorchid]So randomly in the last couple weeks Xavier has peed and pooped in the potty chair. So over the weekend we let him pick out big boy underwear at the store. Yesterday morning he got up and I asked him if he wanted to put a pair on...he was super excited...he even said "Pee, Pee" and went to the bathroom and peed in the potty chair after I took off his diaper. So on went the underwear...well the day went down hill after that. Every time I tried to take him to the potty chair he refused...and shortly after he would pee his pants. This went on all day. And today started off the same. So DH had a talk with Xavier when he was home for lunch. He asked Xavier if he wanted to keep wearing his big boy underwear...and Xavier said yes. So Daddy told him he had to pee in the potty, to which Xavier said No. So Daddy said that he would have to wear a diaper then....to which Xavier said No. So Daddy told him he either had to pee in the potty in order to keep wearing his big boy underwear, or if he kept peeing in his pants he would have to wear a diaper. Then he asked Xavier if he was going to wear his big boy underwear and pee in the potty or did we need to put a diaper back on him. Xavier replied..."Diaper back" and went and laid down and waited to have a diaper put on. So I guess we aren't potty training after all....

Mine STILL does that and he's 3!! Its so frustrating, but there isnt much you can do to MAKE them go. We have tried EVERYTHING! And the only way he'll do it is if he wants to. Which is a huge bummer for us!

I started PTing my little guy just before he was two, because I was pg with DD and I was hoping not to have two in diapers if I didn't have to! He had little interest and just didn't quite get it, although he kind of liked the idea of the underwear. Anway, after DD was born, I got caught up in all of the taking-care-of-newborn type stuff and PTing was put on the back burner. When he was two and a half, we tried again with much more luck - I would hardly even call it PTing! He pretty much did it all on his own. I think he maybe had like 5 accidents ever after we started the second time around, and he was always the one to tell me when he had to go potty. So maybe your little guy is just not quite ready. Don't be discouraged, just try again in a few months! Smile

We're in the middle of potty training now. DD is just turning 2. She understands when we tell her to, she needs to sit on the potty. But she's not always successful at telling us on her own. So, it's a learning process for all of us! Hang in there and try again soon.

Are any of the LOs you watch already potty trained? I know other moms have told me that when there's another LO to watch it goes much easier.

Good luck!

Hey the fact that he's even interested in it is good. Trust me. Patrick is a Jan 07 baby too and he's not the least bit interested. I've tried but nothing happens.

We've been through the same thing. She will ask to wear underwear or periodically ask to use the potty, but it is only a "whim". We've attempted no underwear for several days at a time with no results. Anyway, we understand. She will be 2.5 in April and I plan to give it another shot in May.

From what I have heard, boys are much harder. Another reason I am scared to have a boy. Wink Ruthie was super easy, but I was also at home, and it was summer, so she was fine running around in panties all day. I just went with the flow. We started putting her on the potty at 14 months whenever she wanted to, and by 22 months she was completely pt'd. She only had one #2 accident and she HATED it. Biggrin

Melody, I feel your pain. LOL! Kayson showed so much interest for a while, now he's acting like he's scared of the big boy potty. ?? I'm not pushing it...I guess he'll be ready when he's ready. I HOPE.

T.J. is doing the same thing and he will be 3 in a couple of months. Sometimes we do well, sometimes we don't.

I am mean about PL. If they can make that choice to want to pee in the diaper they are ready to PT. If they want the big boy undies we let them mess. Once they pee them selves they have to go sit on the potty even if they don't go. Not as a punishment but to see undies have a connection to potty sitting. (I take them every 20 min so accidents don't happen often) If we have an accident after potty sitting they have to help me clean up the mess with a cloth diaper.
