Default thinking about doing digi scrap

Hello ladies! i love to scrapbook and i was thinking about trying out the digital scrap. i read the intro and such, but im still confused! can you just buy any little scrapbook program and be able to use downloads off the internet?? that part im confused on. or can you download a free program and still download things off of the internet and use? or do you need a program similar to photoshop to be able do all of that?? i hope some of this makes sense! TIA for all your help!

I'll try to answer your questions ...

To really be able to do everything in digi-scrapping, you need 2 things in a program - layers and the ability to use png files (they have a transparent background). Most of the stuff you download on the net will be png files, so the program needs to accept them.

I've never used it, but Gimp apparently supports both layers and png files, and it is a free program (google it, should be easy to find). Most digi-scrappers tend to use Photoshop or Photoshop Elements or a similar digital editing program just because of the range of things you can create using them, but there are also people on this board that use Powerpoint and other programs.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask - I'll try to answer, tho I'm not an expert, just been around for 3 years in the digi-scrap world.

Yep, many of the "scrapbooking" programs that you can buy for about $20 easy to use but don't support .png files so you can't use the internet freebies. I ran into that problem a year ago and switched to Microsoft Digital Image Pro which is cheap but still supports the layers and .png files.

I don't digi scrap either, but when I do create something using the internet downloads from the freebies, I use Microsoft Picture It! It works well with the little amount I do. It was on my computer, or it was free, or something like that! Welcome to the board!
