totaly OT... RANT...why won't anyone hire my dh???

UGH!! Andy has been interviewing for jobs for almost 2 years. he has at LEAST 2 interviews a month. I'm getting so sick of this. he is qualified for all of these positions..he has 2 bachelors degrees, 5+ years experience in his field.

I'm starting to think that people don't hire him because he is in a wheelchair. well DANG IT he is just as able as anyone else! :violent2::angry1::angry4:

AND we just found out that our new health insurance will only cover Andy's monthly supplies UP TO $2500/year..that's less then 2months' supplies!!!

AND he can no longer get medicare/medical because we make too much money...thats BULL!!! how is $25,000/yr too much money?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? FOR THREE PEOPLE!

I feel helpless at this point. I can't get a job because we can't afford daycare...and we only have one car so trying to coordinate andy getting to work, me getting to work, and getting eli to where ever he needs to go...UGH! I pray to God everyday to give me strength. I feel like I'm running on empty! I feel like i have nothing left to give.
Sorry ladies.

:bigarmhug: I hate hearing this Liz. You and your family have been in my thoughts and prayers. I don't understand the $25,000 for a family of 3. We have been in your shoes. How they expect you to make it on that, I have no idea. It's so rough. I will continue to keep you guys in my prayers.

Just a suggestion- maybe you could work at a daycare. Sometimes they give free child-care, would that be a possibility?

Oh man that is just terrible! You sound like the exact same spot I was in about a year and a half ago. We were making 19k a year after I quit to stay at home with Hannah and yet medicaid would not cover my husband or I, just our DD. I can honestly say it was THE worst 18 months of my life. My husband had barely graduated college and was making jack and the odds of him getting another job looked extremely hopeless. All I can say is God has a way of working things out on HIS own time, not ours...I don't think I learned all that I was supposed to learn during those rough times but luckily He blessed us with a better paying job. We just had to MOVE an hour and a half away to get it.

Has your DH looked all over and not just in your city right now? I will def. keep you guys in my prayers.

Dh has been looking all over CA, AND applying in different states. I know God provides in his own time... but i'm getting so discouraged because we can barely keep food on the table...and it's been like that since andy and i got married 3 years ago
how is that in God's plan? Sorry i'm just at my wits end. Sad

oh, Liz, I'm sorry it's so rough! and I agree, I don't understand why $25K is too much money to qualify for medicare/medicaid.

and it sounds like discrimination to some degree if no one will hire him. that's just wrong. what's his background? I mean, what kind of work is he looking to do?

can I be nosy and ask about him being in a wheelchair? I noticed it in your challenge layout, I didn't know he was in a wheelchair. I'm just a curious person, hope you're not offended.

anyhow, I will keep you and Andy in my prayers.

I am so sorry Liz. I really hope it gets better for you soon. Are you able to watch another child (just 1 or 2?) in your home for a little bit of extra money? I can't imagine why 25k would be too much for the 3 of you.

He does IT work (computer stuff) He's got 2 bachelors degrees in Criminal Justice and information security/IT. He has worked for 2 police departments and now works with a non-profit mental health organization.

I don't mind questions. Smile and i don't take offense to them either. He has been in a wheelchair for 16 years this October. He wrecked his motorcycle when he was 19 and broke his back. He is paralyzed from 4in below his nipples down. He is more then capable of doing the jobs he is interviewing for because that is what he does at his current job. He is just trying to find something that pays more. At the job he's at now, there is nowhere for him to move up to. he is at the top (short of being the manager...but he isn't going anywhere soon) and he is at the top of his pay grade!!! (it's a non-profit what do you expect....i appreciate non-profits, but they aren't very money friendly to the employees. I guess you kinda have to love what he's in to see past the little money)

that's really messed up that he can't get hired. non profit doesn't have the money in it for sure, but there's certainly money in his career field. I hate that he can't get hired, for whatever reason. has he gone the monster.com route at all?

and that's so tragic about the bike accident. but it's good that he survived it. bike accidents like that terrify me, ya know?

I wish I could give you some more hope. 3 years is a long time to be struggling like that.

Unfortunately, even if there is discrimination, which is hard to know for sure, it is really hard to prove. I would recomend that he looks in the government and educational fields some more if he hasn't already. I'm sure you already know this, but they are the ones less likely to be discriminatory. Smaller companies are much harder. Trust me, I've worked on the hiring end at a few places.

Hugs! I hope something works out with the medical supplies....
